Can't find "Mixer Device"

I've been trying for a few days now to fix my sound card. It's a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 PE, although I never use the front panel thingy (except for headphones, which I rarely use). A few days ago, windows started up and I had no sound. Usually I just take a visit to the Volume Control panel and fix any settings that (somehow) get messed up.

This time, however, it gave me an error saying it couldn't find a mixing device. Here's what I've tried (to no avail):

Unistalling and re-installing the drivers (twice)
Updating the drivers
Taking out and checking the sound card--nothing was wrong

It's weird, though, because I can open the Calibrator function/program from Creative, and I get sound. However, all the other Creative applications say my sound card isn't installed, although this is contrary to what Device Manager says (it gives the WDM drivers and whatnot a clean bill--I've also tried just re-installing the WDM drivers).

I've even tried to do a System Restore back to the day before the problem, but that didn't help either. I'm at a loss.

Any help/suggestions would be great!

When I do the "Software Autoupdate" at the Creative site, it finds my card!

Why can't my computer!!!??? It was working perfectly until 3 days ago.

have you added anything to your comp recently?
any other pci card? cos it sounds like it may be a BIOS issue, maybe an irq conflict or something like that.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday, but the most recent thing I've done is add another monitor (for dual monitors), but that was at least 2 weeks ago and the problem didn't start then, it just started out of the blue. And I'm pretty sure adding another monitor wouldn't mess with IRQ.
