Z-5500 Hiss

I get a constant hiss from the satellites on z-5500 speakers. It's not that noticeable when I play music but when I talk on Skype or Google Talk I have to turn up the speakers so I can hear the person but at the same time I hear the hiss; this is when it’s most annoying.

For now I turned down the Volume in Control panel to half and set Wave to full; I can barely hear it now unless I turn it up extremely high. But now the speakers can't go as loud as before.

I've heard this problem can be caused by the power strip, soundcard, wires... (I made sure all my connections are correct and firmly connected).

Are you using an analog connection?
If you unplug the speakers from the soundcard and max the volume, do you still get a hiss?
If you plug them directly into an outlet instead of the power strip, does that help?

I can't hear the hiss from my sats but the sub is got this not his but i dunno how to explain sound. Pretty loud too All high end speakers hiss so there is nothing you can do about it. Plus like you said, when listening to music you cant hear it.

I had the problem until I muted the Line-in and Mic-in inputs, worked fine then.

Muting your mic and line-in doesn't make you silent to the people you are talking to.

It only makes you silent to yourself.

So, mute it.
