Thumbs Up!

Thanks jiiteepee. -Just got a new HDD and looking for drivers to install.
Was wondering [since they don't say] if they supported OpenAL:

JohnZS at Creative Labs Forums wrote:
"The Good News is these drivers are the first official drivers which support
OpenAL Hardware acceleration on our Audigy series sound cards."

But it's cool, hope they work as well as the betas in that year's span
between official beta and final.

They don't support Open AL. I know because I installed them and gave Quake 4 a spin. When I check the configuration of the sound card it said that Open AL wasn't available. Give the Youp PAX 2.31 drivers a try, you'll like them.

n00bie?

Aren't the YouP PAX drivers based on Creative drivers --> so, can you tell, what is different with OpenAl driver on those YouP drivers compared to original Creative drivers?

jiitee

P.S. You should read the thread which is 'running' on CT forum --> link is on my 1st post. Great information there.

Thumbs Up!

In my case I just installed on new HDD so I haven't installed
Quake 4 or Doom 3 yet to check OpenAL. All is VERY well here
with these 2.08.0004s, recommend them! [BF2/ CoD2/ FEAR/ iTunes ]

Started out a bit confused, but I'd say it's as close to confirmed as possible without word [that I can see] from Creative themselves: "These drivers include all of the changes from the previous drivers plus EAX 4 HD and full hardware OpenAL support." -[JohnZS at Creative Labs Forums]

That's nuff yakking, go get em.

Newbiee me? LOL!!!

I know that the Youp PAX drivers are based on the Creative drivers. Go play Quake 4 or Doom 3 and see if the Open AL support is there with the new drivers. It isn't on the options because it isn't avalable. As for quality in the drivers, the Youp ones will always win hands down.

P.S. I did read the thread on the CT forum and found nothing interesting for the matter...

?

Because for me, the new Creative Drivers are working with OpenAl in Quake4.

Also, if you have problems with the equalizer, you can use this method to correct the pfmod file, as I have tested it with the new version and it works.

It says

Filename: [color=#3300ff]SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004.exe[/color]

This download contains an improved version of the drivers found on the Sound Blaster Audigy®, Audigy 2 series, and Audigy 4 series installation CDs. It also supports Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition.

This download supports the following audio devices only:
  • Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy including Platinum and Platinum eX series
  • Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 including Platinum, Platinum eX, and Value series
  • Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS including Platinum and Platinum Pro series
  • Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro and Sound Blaster Audigy 4
This download also includes the following application:
  • Creative Audio Console
The application enables you to use the Sound Blaster Audigy, Audigy 2 series, and Audigy 4 series features and functions.
Requirements:
  • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows XP Service Pack 2, or Windows 2000
  • Sound Blaster Audigy, Audigy 2 series, or Audigy 4 series audio devices listed above
Notes:
  • This download will uninstall the drivers for your existing audio device before proceeding with the installation.
  • For Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 series only: After updating your driver, download and install Creative MediaSource™ DVD-Audio Player DVDA_PCApp_LB_2_00_75.exe.
  • Creative MediaSource DVD-Audio Player is unavailable for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
  • Do not install this driver for the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy LS or Sound Blaster Audigy SE audio device.

Previous BETA drivers were same to Notebook and other A's, so I wonder why this driver shouldn't be good for Notebook too.

I`ve installed the drivers. Seems great. Quake4 does support OpenAL.

I have one problem though,

When i`m playing Fable: Lost Chapter, the audio seems to be swapped ?? I think the front speakers is playing the background music, while the rear speakers is playing the effects or dialog audio. Is it supposed to be like this ? Other games is working fine. CMSS on or off, same result also.

Do you guys disable the turbo mode in the registry ?

I`m using 7.1 Inspire T7900 speaker. Previously 4.1 also has this problems.
Audigy2ZS
Pentium4 2.4B , Radeon9700Pro , Winxp SP2

Please help me.

Regards

My Audigy 2 Value doesn't work with the new driver for some reason. It won't even detect the card. When I reistall the beta drivers, everything works fine.

Do I really need this mod to use the equalizer??

I mena... if I use these new Creative .004 drivers with the A4 ISO by YouP to have that software, do I still need this file??
In case, how and where do I place it??

Thank you.

Try it out. I'm using an A1. I know that generally whenever I install new drivers, the PFMOD file needs to be modified or changed.

So this PfMod.dll file is from the EQ of the original software package from Creative ???

Install drivers from CD first (with all the panels you need). Then install this update package.
Equalizer will work. Just don't use intenal installer and delete or overwrite all Creative shared files. Doing this will broke everything. I know it sux but this is how you should do it.
I don't get it why creative can't FOR ONCE make a decent software along soundcards.
Always some beefed up hardware with pre-alpha software that has problems all the time with every thing you do. Most of Creative apps can be installed with their own installer but most of them won't even work unless you install whole batch from original CD. Don't get it why is this good for anything.

i don't like these drivers.. the sound quality isn't as good no matter how much tweaking i do... For example when i try to edit the midranges in the audio control panel they just don't sound the same (not as cleaner) as the older drivers.
When playing mp3s, i notice that the music sounds heavier in a bad way plus it ends up distorting the subwoofer easier. I have a logitech 5300 speaker set, and the older drivers sounded great..

in 2.1 mode u won't notice a difference and the sound is fine.. its in 5.1 mode u'll notice this "heavier" sound when playing music/movies..
