SBLive question...
I decided to install an older SBLive card I had in my desk to replaced the onboard sound on one of my systems. When I boot with the card, windows xp loads, gets to desktop and starts the install of the card, the screen goes black and I get no response from the system. In safe mode the card is detected and installed with no problems, but not in XP. Am I looking at a resource conflict, or a bad card? It worked fine when I replaced it with an Audigy in my main system. I've tried different slots on the mobo(Asus A8V-Deluxe) and of course I disabled the onboard and removed the realtek drivers before attempting this.

Remove card and drivers from device manager, boot and when XP tells, it has found new hardware do not let XP to find best drivers (install 'automatically'), but point it to look from original driver/software CD (some location on HD if you have drivers (original or driver update) extracted there).
If I remember right, you can DL the whole LiveDriveUni...something from the Creative support - downloads. jiitee |

sorry, but the installation never gets to that point. It gets as far as the wizard starting stating that new hardware found, and then nothing. Black screen and no response.

I would say try another slot, but what you might also want to do is polish the contacts on that card it might be a little oxidized or not sitting right in the PCI slot...I use a nice pencil eraser to polsih contacts..do both side of the card until they shine...put it in a different slot and try install it again..let us know what happens...this is where I would start..

Tried various slots, never thought of cleaning contacts.
