What is this thing called?

Hi

This connector is present on some CD-Motherboard audio connections.

I want to buy the 10 pin version so i can mod my self a clean and tidy connection from my Audigy 2 ZS to front pannel.

I just want to know what the connector is called or even better find me a place in the UK where i can buy some .

Thanks
David

There is an article here in the forums on what you need to do inorder to get the front panel audio hooked up to your Audigy 2 ZS.

HERE is the pinout assignment for you in a pic format, and HERE is the thread.

Unfortunately I can't recall the name of that white connector. All I remember is that it's a proprietary connector that Dell, and a few other OEM manufacturers use for front panel audio. However, you can use the old sound blaster CD audio cable like the one in the pic you first posted. You really only need 9 pins, so if you can find 3 sets of 3 pin connectors similar to the one in your pic then your set.

That might work, but there might be too much spacing between the pin and the back of the connector. The other one on the page HERE would probably be better. It's got a narrow profile.

I wish I could remember the name of it. It's something like DF1B or something.

Ive tried those 2.4mm connections, they wont fit...

I know the pin out, thanks. But I regularly remove my motherboard and therefore the cards too and because I don’t have the correct plug and end up having to pin them back up every time.

Cos’ its a propriety Dell format I would have a really bad chance of finding them. So…

After much research I’ve decided to go a slightly different route and get http://www.gradconn.com/2mm_board_to_board_connectors.html scroll down to “BB02-GD”

It will fit but doesn’t have the clippy bit that’s not important, nows I gotta find someplace that sells em…

Again, all help much appreciated.

Hey David

did I understand right?
You have a ten pin on the front, and a 4 pin on the sound card, and you need to combine the 2 cables to clean everything up?

cos if that's right, I've been looking for exactly the same thing for months!

could you please link me direct to what you bought to do it, I'd really appreciate it

cheers

What he's looking to do is hookup the frontpanel connectors on his case directly to the Audigy 2 soundcard. On the OEM cards there is a 10 pin "long" white connector for front panel audio which is for OEM computer manufacturers like Dell to use. Since most cases uses single wires, or a 5x5 10 pin block you need to redo the connectors inorder to hook it up. Davids idea was to buy the same female part for that connector on the soundcard to make it more tidy.

OK, think I understand

what I have is a 10 pin "long" white connector from front panel on a shutle case, that I need to go to the mobo, so would a similar idea reversed do the job?

You could seperate them into singles, or pickup a 5x5 block. It would just be a matter of finding out what wires are for what. Go by the picture I posted above while taking the wires off the white connector, connecting them according to what your mobo requires, and you should be ok. Of note, normally you only use 7 out of the 10 connectors on the mobo (1 is blank, 2 not used), but in this case you will only be using 5 of the connectors since the white block doesn't support frontpanel right-in, or frontpanel left-in.
