Looking for good programs for editing

i have recently got a video cam and have some footage that i want to edit and cut and put music to it and all that whats the best program to use and do i just use nero to burn it onto dvd?

If your video files are .avi, you can edit them with VirtualDub. But then you'll need TMPGEnc to convert them to MPEG2 for DVD burning. If they're .mpg, you can use Cuttermaran.

Not all versions of Nero will burn DVDs. If you bought the full retail package, you should be ok. But if you have a OEM version, DVD burning might be excluded. If you don't mind the DVDs being playable on computers only, you can always burn your .avi and/or .mpg files as an ordinary data disc.

there is a version of virtualdub that edits mpeg-2s
google it
and vdub is free
other than that, adobe premier pro (not free)
