codec woes

so I'm running HL2 right? Everythings peachy.

then one day I had some codec troubles and I wiped some old codecs off and installed some new ones.

unfortunately it wiped off the cvid codec from the cinepak. so now the opening video for HL2 wont play. it has white lines through the screen and says something like "Vids:cvid decompressor not found"

so I downloaded cinepak. no dice. I downloaded the codec file. no dice. it just wont work. Gspot says i dont have the codec installed. I really dont get this.

I even updated WMP (uhgggg) to see if that fixed it, but again...no dice.

Odd that they'd be using such an old codec. Hmm..

In any case you probably downloaded THIS file, right? The old Cinepack CVID codec? If not, try it. Also, you might want to try reinstalling Quicktime as the codec is part of the install.
