DVD Creation Questions
As posted here:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=31939 I've purchased my first DVD Burner. It's working great in so many ways and I'm very happy with it so far. BUT, there are a few issues that I'm having when I attempt to create a DVD Movie disk. 1. I can play about anything I create by playing it back on the DVD burner. I expected that much. ![]() 2. When I attempt to play the same DVD on my 98SE machine where I have ATi MMC 8.1 installed, I get a 'Fatal Error: Failed to load the video decoders' message. 3. On the same system, Media Player 9 will play the disk but with some searching involved rather than automatically. 4. The DVD movie disk is detected as a DVD in the home DVD player (Pioneer DV505) but it produces a message: Cannot be played. The media I'm using is -R format and the authoring program states it's been created successfully. The software that came packaged with this DVD Burner is Sonic MyDVD v. 4. I'm not liking it much at all so far, but am just experimenting at the moment to see what actually the drive is capable of doing. I ran it through a really tough stress test (explained in the other thread noted above) and it passed with flying colors. So, this is about where I am for now and looking for some guidance. Thx! EDIT: BTW, I'm not ripping an existing DVD movie. I'm trying to create a playable DVD disk from a capture I did from a VHS tape. The capture was into an mpg format.

Hiya Dyre.....
From reading your post this sounds like it may be the proverbial can of worms.....but here goes 1st....how did you capture your video ??? and what screen resolution etc etc 2nd....am not super familiar with sonic mydvd but understand it will produce both dvd and vcd. what was it's output ?? a AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder containing vob and ifo/bup files or something else as in vcd/dat files ?? 3rd....what are you using for a burning app ?? or is it built-in to sonic ??? Thanks for the reply. 1. I captured from the VHS through my video in on a RADEON 64DDR VIVO using DVD Quality 720x480 NTSC 525 Resolution and .mpg format. 2. I attempted to output to DVD format using the AUDIO....VIDEO folder as you describe. 3. MyDVD has built-in output to the DVD burner. I'm presently attempting another approach. The packaged software also includes ArcSoft ShowBiz. This is very similar to many video editing programs I've used in the past to create VCD format for CD-R. It allows for Trimming and Splitting the video and then you can Make Movie and/or Create an output to various types of DVD movie formats. I'm currently Creating a DVD Movie Only Disk without any menu. It still has a ways to go and will have to complete while I'm away from the computer. But, it is supposed to output and burn the DVD on its own. We'll see how this one goes. EDIT: I got the problem resolved with MMC failing to play the newly created DVD on the 98SE machine. I had to update MMC to 8.7 on that machine to get things working. Works like a charm now.
