Logola is correct. When i started the thread there were no subs at all...now i have them working (using vobsub) in MP9 and WinDVD but not divX. I'll check out the gordianknot site soon

if i am correct you need to download 3 packages;
1 gordianknot rippack it self 2 gordianknot codec pack 3 auto gordianknot (which makes it a kind of 1 click solution) besides this -try dvd2svcd (which does also dvd2avi; and avi is a container for divx and xvid). By the way xvid seems superior in many test. It is freeware and allows subs. www.dvd2svcd.org http://dvd2svcd.shellhost.dk/ -if you have the new nero , you can try their new nero digital codec. IF you have the ultra package it allows dolby digital....and subs ofcourse. Qaulity seems extremely good |

there is only one for me. which gives the best image quality...and that is dvd2svcd with the cinema craft encoder (cce2.5). DVD2svcd is free, but cce is not
also nice results give davideo3 pro and moviejack. both not free |

it is a very popular encoder, it can be used as a standalone encoder or as a plugin for other software. Dvd2svcd uses it as a standalone encoder.
If i am correct you can buy a pro version and a normal one. The pro allows to multiple passes which gives better quality. NOt sure about the price though. ALso you can use canopus procoder with dvd2svcd. Very good also, but cce2.5 is faster. Canopus there for is eassier to handle. IT has already the settings for svcd, dvd and so on |

Quote:
Ill try ripping with the old faithful DVD decrypter and then convert bypassing the ripping stage in the DVD2SVCD app, ive read the same issues on their forums with some users, might be specific to certain drives. |

dvd2svcd allows different types of extracting itself
try to change it under dvdrip tab, try to use vstrip instead of internal routine |

it allows to make your own subs and sync them......easy if you want to translate the movie yourself |

yeah I found this app a little while ago and it really is quite incredible ! rips right from DVD while converting to XVID or DIVX, SVCD whatever. subtitles, built in limits on size, res changes, the works.

ive really only been using DIVX and XVID with it, couldnt get a good SVCD convertor, DVD2SVCD kept crashing for me, even with a new install, im still on the hunt for an alternative.

ok I was going to start a new thread but as this thread probably has alot of the experts on thread notification, ill post it in here.
ive gotten DVD2SVCD working with cinema craft encoder 2.5 but is there anyway to remove the watermark the encoder leaves? I normally dont mind but its MASSIVE. nice quality video though ! |

only when you buy it or when you use illegal ways...this is their way to force people to buy it. Clever isn't it.
