AVI to DVD Question

Hey guys,
i've never done this before, how do you create a DVD or VCD using using avi or asx files. I just basically want to watch on TV, some old music concerts that I have on my computer. What program(s) are best to use and what are some things to keep in mind. Thanks guys.

should work for AVI and mpeg and stuff i don't know about ASX
