Reason VS Kontakt
Ive been using Reason for a few months now but someone recently suggested that I switch to Kontakt since I use Reason Primarily to create studio sounding drum tracks for my music, and because Ive recently run into some drum kits that id like to use but arent supported by reason. Now I was wondering a few things about the program; How does the interface compare to reason, and how much better are the samples that are available for this program? Also, will I be able to transfer the work ive done on Reason to Kontakt through .midi files or something?
Basically Im just looking for someone who uses it to sell me on the program/ give me the low down. |

ok kontakt is basically a sampler. To control it you will need either a VSTi host like cubase or logic, or a midi interface between the sequencer
if you can save your reason drum maps, you will need a program that can convert the .rex files to .nki or any other format supported by kontakt kontakt does NOT have a built in sequencer like reason, so you will need to use a seperate program (logic, cubase etc) - the free cubasis vst version that came with an old soundblaster live should do you just fine for the purposes

Yeah the Battery version using Kontakt. Sorry I frgot to write that. Is there any way to convert kit files made for battery and such over to Reason? Im really trying to decide if the advantages of using the kontakt sampler with any sort of midi writer is worth ditching my 400 dollar software, lol.

Alright nevermind. I just found myself BFD by fxpansion and I think Im in love. Drums from Hell is pretty sweet too, but I like BFD interface a little better. There is also a program out there to convert all the DFH samples over to BFD so Im just gonna go with that, feck Reason.

I was considering that actually for its mastering purposes. However, I work mostly with all recorded tracks except for the drum track. Is it possible to master full wav tracks with reason? it seems the program is mostly for the techno/synth crowd. I really dont go in for that sort of thing.

to master it's best you get a sequencer like cubase or logic, and a decent mastering plugin set
cubasis, again *should* do provided you get seperate plugins

I currently use Sonar for mixing, is it good for mastering if I use seperate plugins?

that program should be perfect for you
just get a nice set of DX mastering plugins if the plugins in sonar aren't to the standard you wish
