Nero Alternative???
I'm in the market for new CD/DVD software, so what are the alternatives to Nero???
One of the main reasons I've been using it is because I like DVD Shrink which requires Nero to make direct one-to-one copies (yes, I know I'm lazy). But it sems to me that Nero can be a huge pain in the ass, so I'm hoping someone will enlighten me and point me toward something better. Mostly I use Nero to burn LOTS of CD's and DVD's (I back up all my music/films), but I also back up a lot of games with Alcohol (amazing how quick a 12 year old kid can scratch the hell out of a brand new copy of Dawn of War). Is there any one program that combines the two skills?? |

Well, Roxio has some decent products (like Easy CD Creator), but I have to agree on what the others said: Nero is the best you can find. If you're interested in Roxio for alternatives to Nero, check their products here:

And every single time I burn an audio CD, when I click and drag the tracks over, it jumbles the track order. No matter how painstakingly I name & number them. Every now and again, even though I sort the track order properly after I put them in Nero, it still burns them in the wrong order. Aside from the problems mentioned above Nero has been fairly flawless, but it's always worth an ask. Any advice on the dvd creation problem would be appreciated. |

I personally like roxio but I also don't have much experience with nero other than the oem cheapo version, and obviously Alcohol is a requirement.

The reason is I've always had trouble with Nero losing synch between video and audio. This way, I don't seem to have a problem. Plus WinAVI Video Encoder encodes a LOT faster than Nero. Nero has SmartEncoding (meaning if the vids already encoded "properly" it won't re-encode), so I always check the results from WinAVI Video Converter (when you use NeroVision Express, just before the Burn, you can click on details to see how Nero thinks the encoding is ... most of the time it says the encoding is 100% meaning it won't do a thing except burn) in NeroVision to make sure it's OK, then go for it. The only time I've had it fail is a bad DVD ... dunno about your audio CD issues ... |
