better cable helps....but perhaps not enough to warrant the price...I'd see how cheap you can get it first

the X800pro is a great card. i bought mine the weekend they went on sale and never regreted it.
as for the Z680's, i upgraded to the optical cable and 14G Montster cable, from the crap ass 18G stuff that came with it. it got rid of almost all the hiss and static, it sounds absolutly amazing. the only time i hear any hissing now is when i have no audio playing, and i really have to strain to hear it. again, some of the best 60 bucks i ever spent.

na, i didnt pay anywhere near that much.
i bought a 500ft spool on ebay for 120bucks. i planed on useing it on my comp speakers here, and then rewireing the upstairs stereo with all monster. hell, i eneded up even useing the stuff for my car audio too. now that optical cables..... 29.99 for a 5 foot Monster optical. that stuff is expensive.

Hahah, monster cables are waaay overpriced, I just got a spool of 14 guage cable at a hardware type store a year or so ago.
another-user: Heh, with my cheapo set-up that I used to have (Klipsch Ultra, Audigy 2 ZS, 18 guage cables, all analog, all plugged into an APC surge unit) I got no hiss or static. None at all, even with no audio playing, and the volume cranked to max on both computer and speakers.

Upgrading speaker wire will do absolutely nothing. Its a big misconseption with stereos. Cyro-treated or whatever they claim almost does almost nothing for sound. Wire size only matters if the wire isn't large enough to carry the current that the speaker is required, and in your case its not required.
In my car i use 12 gauge speaker wire, and thats for a 600 wrms subwoofer, 79wrms speakers (the ones with the Z680s) don't need more than 18-20gauge. |
