Subtitles on DVD's w/ AVI - DVD conversion

So I've got an AVi, and even though it doesn't have subtitles built into it, I have a .srt file.

Now, Using avi2dvd I was able to make a watchable DVD out of this video, and it had subs. The problem was that I didn't have a menu, and I like my menus.

So I open up Tmpgenc DVD author and import the files, build my menu, etc. When I export it to a folder though, the subs are gone.

Nero Visionexpress (which came w/ my DVD burner) won't import the files at all. I drag and drop them, or browse to them, and it doesn't do anything.

Help?
