Help with ripping cds!

I am currently using Acoustica MP3 cd burner and i have bought some cd's that i need ripping but they have a protection program on the cd that only makes me use windows media player to rip them on but after thats done i still cant put them onto a cd.
If you know any program that will rip to mp3 at any bitrate and will get rid of the protection program or know how to fix this program please let me know.

Also any media players that can play all codecs better than windows media player?
