random hangups...Help plz
What would be all the possible cause of the random hang-ups(only mouse cursor moves but no response of anything, not even CTrl-Alt-Del) provided Prime95(with different kind of test options) ran without a single error for over 24 hours few times? Nothing overclocked.
That was a long question but you know what I mean. I said all the possible cause because I am totally cluless now. Any help would be appriciated. 1. Random application glitch, perhaps its hanging at a specific number for some reason (like a corrupt temp file it keeps using over and over). This isn't likely if its completely randomly freezing at any time rather than at a specific point
2. Something changed with your hardware... the tower was moved, knocked, or otherwise somehow touched. Or even a dust build up finally taking its toll. If everything else works fine this isn't likely to be the issue. 3. The operating system is unstable due to something you installed (a new driver, a new program, maybe some virii/spyware slipped through and you never noticed). Again... if your day to day stuff is fine this wouldn't likely be the cause 4. Prime95 needs reinstalling. Completely eradicate it from your system and install it stock and see what happens. This is the most likely option. Also running CCleaner wouldn't hurt. |

OK. It happened again so the WinXP repair intall did not help either.
Actually, my day to day is affected. Dayato day stuff like web browsing. It happened when I was just surfing. Like I said, it is random occurance. Sometimes it's between days. Sometimes it happenes within hours or minutes even. I am totally clueless what the cause is. Something changed... Could it be my mobile rack for HDD? I have three different HDD. Each with different OS build. Win XP Pro. Win XP 64 bit, and Ubuntu. I have this mobile rack set up so I sometimes swap out hard drive and boot into a different OS when I need/want to. Maybe I'll boot with Win XP 64 bit HDD and see if it happens there. There is no telling when it will happen though. |

Maybe then the connection between the rack & HDD and the interface/system isn't all that great?
