Which card to choose?
Hi guys, I'm planning on changing my graphic card (a NVidia Geforce 2 MX400) for a better one, but I don't know which one to choose. Any ideas? I'd like a good one (new cards or within this past 2 months) and with an average cost.
What card should I get? Thx in advance

I think that you should get something from ATI's X300-X1300 range or from nVidias 6600-7600 range. Main issue what you will have is your CPU being so old that it can't feed data fast enough to your new GPU.

My CPU is not that old. I changed it last november, so I don't think that's gonna be a problem

What model motherboard do you have? We will be able to better choose a gfx card per specifications.

Yep, you were right. I checked and it says it's a 648FX
![]() Back to the topic, now that we've cleared that, which card should I get? I want a newer one which allows me to play newer games like Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars... |

Ok so you got SiS's chipset.
For C&C 3 I would say that card from Ati's X8XX range or better, from nVidias cards 6800 or better would do well. |

Do note that I think that your CPU is bottlenecking the performance with those cards. |

If you can afford it I would definitely sit around at 1650XT as a minimum which will also set you up for games in the future. I know my friend's struggles in supreme commander I dunno how it would sit with C&C3

if you were to go with an NVIDIA card, get nothing less than a 7600GS. That card will out perform a 6600, and be similar in performance to a standard 6800 card (non GT/Ultra). If you were to stay with NVIDIA, there's always the 7800GS as the top of the line card on NVIDIA. Those go for about $200 USD...not sure that that translates into in terms of currency though.

I've been talking with my girl (shared pc, I have to ask her if she wants also the change) and some friends and they suggested that we keep it with NVidia, so I think we're gonna get the NVidia 7800GS

ok, sorry to bother you again, but I've been looking this cards you told me but here in Spain are very expensive, so I'd like to know if there's a cheaper card which can play recent games without problems and not much more. I don't need Tv-out things and other complements. I just want a card that can last me like 3-4 years and is not that expensive (I checked the ATI Radeon X850XT and here it costs 408,75€...)
any ideas? thx in advance

now days all cards come with tv-out so you can't remove it. btw. was that pixmania's card too costly? they ship EU wide... I think that the shipping would add 10 to 25€ to the prize.

I'm not buying it online, I check with a friend that provides companies and does discounts to me. I checked pixmania, but it was the Geforce 7600GS, not the 7800GS...is it good enough?
