Noise Problem

Hi guys, my first post!!!
I have a problem with this great drivers!!!
I can reach a good latency option but there is no way to record an input with out a buzz noise... the low noises that you can hear...When i disinstall the kx drivers and go back to the normal drivers i dont have any noise at all...even with a real poor mic like the chat one...
Any help for it? i have a Sb Live 5.1....
Thank you guys...

in the AC97 window mute the mic input, that's the noisiest part of the input chain, see if that helps

Thank you for the help but already tryied it!!!

Any way i if that could help someone i found out that put the Recording level in the recording panel to the minimun that result in a uge less noise, the problem is that then you have to maximize what yuo have recorded because you can't ear it but is there anyway...
...i really wanna thank you guys for this great great great asio drivers...
...i think this problem of noise will be fixed in a future release because with the creative drivers no noise at all... i forgot to say that i use only the line input to record a roland synth...
Thankyou very much from Italy!!!

Yeh, I'm (well, actually my friends are) also very bothered by the noise on the Mic line. I tried to put the microphone on the Line-in, but then the sound is veeery low-volume. How can I stop the Mic in from being so noisy ?

My appreciation will be endless

Use a LOW-NOISE mic-preamp and send that to the line in.

A Mic's quality (as well as its cables) will also affect how 'noisey' it is.

My mic is near to studio quality imo, a sennheiser. I don't have a spare amp, and if the creative drivers can do it without noise, why cant the kx project drivers Recording audio is one of the most important things in music production, so I guessed it would be covered by kx drivers (I'm not trying to sound mad or anything tho )

Quality <> brand name...
Let me clarify... its the 'sensitivity' that means the most when reguarding noise.

As far as KX being the culprit - ??

I SUSPECT: (I cant be sure)
That KX is designed - to avoide over loading/clipping - inputs are FIRST attenuated - THEN we use the GAIN stages in the DSP to boost this attenuated signal.

CL may not do things this way... ??

Again - I could be wrong - I'd imagine someone will chime in and correct me if I am.
This *could* depend on what plugins are used in your DSP as well??

I persoanlly use a Large Diaphram Condensor Mic - with a preamp with phantom power for recording, as ANY dynamic mic is too 'insensitive' for me. And the Livedrive's supposive 'Phantom power' ability doesnt work for me (only +8V - and P.P. is +48) - CL claims its +12V and *should* power most condensors - its Bull crap. - I tried 3 different mics and NONE would power up. (I know about the livedrive jumper btw)

Oke thanks for your reply. Ofcourse, brand name doesnt have to mean anything, but it's a fine mic, I had way less noise with a cheap plantronics headset mic. I don't use a livedrive, i just plug it in my pci card. But anyway, the problem isn't my mic for sure, because the noise is still there when there's nothing plugged into my card (sorry i forgot to mention that in my last post).

If it isn't my drivers, can it be a malfunctioning in the mic in slot? I haven't tried, but iobox said he didn't have any noise with creative drivers, but he did with kX. That's why I thought it's a driver problem i'm having.

Well, my point about the live drive is:
1) its 'further' away from the majority of the 'noise makers' inside a PC.
2) its supposed to have a better mic pre-amp & codec than the on on the card.
3) I still get un-accepyable noise with out a external mic preamp.

There is a known problem with A2ZS Plat Pro's
http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/list.html
reguarding noise issues.. Its the only card specific noise issue I see on that compatibility list.

What is the noise level your seeing?

Maddog - about the live drive's phantom power, it's designed to handle consumer grade condensers, not studio grade ones

also the mic input on the rear of the card is pretty much useless for any real sort of recording, you should be able to pick up a cheap preamp or even a small mixer for about $50US easily

you'll notice a huge difference in the quality

Yup

I was just pointing out/warning about some 'marketing' B.S. I had read elsewhere.
