Ones more a big Mic problem!
Hey,
i really tried my best and read all those topics about this issue but i still could not figure it out. Here it comes: as the subject says i have this Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital and just installed the very new kX driver. Everything works fine, my new logitech x-530 sound system works properly and so on BUT my mic is just pissing me off. Its not really about the mic but when i join ventrilo or TS2 a) there is a big echo, if anyone speaks automaticaly my "green light" turns on even if there is nothing that i said into the mic and they hear themselves AND b) when i turn music on just by using winamp or something they automatically hear this music. So I was really searching for something to turn off to solve this problem but i could not find it. I hope I could transfer my problem to you in a proper way and you probably know what to turn on/turn off to remove those echos. Additionally in FX i turned Reverb and Chorus off and in the options i muted the effect stereo chorus. Greetz, Hack |

You did not gives us much info about your setup when using TS/Ventrillo, so I can only guess...
Generally, the situation that you describe is best avoided using a headset. Aside form the above, you may want to use the "Push to talk" feature (i.e. in TS, I am not familair with Ventrillo), rather than voice activated. If you must use the voice activated feature, then you should keep the MIC as far away from the speakers as possible, and adjust the voice activation level appropriately. Beyond that, make sure that all the sliders (with the exception of 'AC97 Rec level' and 'Master Rec Level' are muted on the 'Recording' page of kxmixer. |

Firstly, thanks for your answer.
Before i had this soundcard i used my onboard stuff and everything worked fine so it must have something to do with this new one. Secondly, since i play with my headspeakers my surroundsystem is muted (like there is no output from the boxes) so basically i cant keep my mic away from those stuff. Sine i have these problems i use push to talk but it is just damn uncomfortable :/ ANd of course, i had no changes in my vt/ts2 so it worked before why isnt it working now?

It sounds like maybe your headset is not so good. You should really use a headset the has a noise cancelling MIC (I use an old MS Sidewinder Game Voice, and have never had any problems). I am not sure why it worked better with your onboard sound card... if you adjust the MIC settings in kX (AC97 Rec Level, Analog Recording Gain, and the MIC +20dB Boost option), and the VOIP software, you should be able to get the same performance.
>>> ANd of course, i had no changes in my vt/ts2 so it worked before why isnt it working now? There are some things (i.e. the +20db Boost option) that could make you MIC act differenlt with different sound cards. You should redo your settings with the new card. |

Just turn off "Wave Recording" in kxmixer. [/color] |

i too have had the same problem for over a year, it sounds like a feedback echo whenever you speak.
Recently it's stopped but i'm not sure what i've done to fix it, just make sure in the recording panel that all sliders except ac97 are muted as by default "what you hear" recording is enabled. system btw is: kx3538 - debug SB0090 10k2 [a000] (audigy platinum) winxp, asus a78nx motherboard, athlon xp2600+ Last edited by ellisdee1; Jun 11, 2006 at 08:18 PM. |
