Microphone Dilemma

Hello,

I have encountered a problem with kX Audio drivers, regarding my microphone. Now, admittedly, I am no audiophile - I find kX somewhat daunting - but it is the only driver that allows me to hear gaming sound without snaps, crackles, and pops (which hurt my ears).

I have an Audigy 2 soundcard. With Creative drivers installed, I get the annoying sound glitching, but my microphone sounds great. After installing kX, my sound no longer glitches, but my microphone is quiet, static-y, and the quality drops about 50% (with no change in mic or settings). This occurs using Ventrilo, or recording sound using the default Windows sound mixer. I have tried configuring mic settings in the Recording and AC97 menus in the Mixer, but nothing at all changes. Is there a way I can configure my settings so that my microphone works with kX? I mean, what changed between the Creative drivers and kX that would make my mic quality so terrible?

Thank you for your help. I understand that it may be difficult to address this problem with my lack of audio-mixing acumen, but I would certainly appreciate it!

Are you saying that it starts out good while recording, but eventually the quality gets bad (during the same recording session), or are you saying that it is always bad (with kX)?

I can't think of any reason why this would happen with kX (unless your are using a custom DSP, and are filtering the MIC signal in some bad way).

What DSP config are you using?

Have you checked the MIC connection to the sound card to verify it did not come loose, etc. (while you are at it, check the MIC wires for any problems (a pet once chewed through my MIC wires)).

I know that you said it was fine with the CL driver, but again, it should not be any different with kX, so I am thinking that it has to be something else.

As for the MIC being quieter, did you try enabling the MIC Boost option, and/or increasing the Analog Recording Gain (both settings are on the AC97 page of kxmixer)? What do you have the Recording levels set to (Recording page of kxmixer)?
