Live! 5.1 SB0680 BSOD with Vista 6000 x86 (32Bit)

Hi there,
I've tried to install the Kx drivers on my vista x86, with sound blaster live! 5.1 PCI (SB0680) but it keeps saying that no hardware is detected, and when i force the windows to pick one (i tried the SB0060, SB010x,and Generics) but it keeps crashing with Kx.sys at the center of the problem, and when it restarts, it says the Kx couldnt start cuz no hardware is there, or that if i am in the middle of the installation then ignor this message, and windows would say that the sound card is based on kx drivers, but that no driver files are found....

any help on how to get this to work? (i thought of addin the vendor and product id to the inf file) but that i figure will only cause the windows to accept the kx files, but still crash... or am i mistaken?

That sounds like a new model, and as such might not be compatible with kX.

BTW: I think it is this model, which is not a SB Live! 5.1, it is a Sound Blaster 5.1, and from the description, I doubt that it has a 10kx chip, and as such would not be compatible with kX.

Ok, so it turns out the card was Creative SB 5.1, and not live, i went to the store, and managed to exchange it for an SB live! 5.1... I read on the box, based on EMU10k1, so i thought nice... went home, opened it up, the model was SB0080, the Chip is: Creative EMU10k1-NDF, and the card has SB live! written in golden letters on it. so i tossed it in, windows didnt identify it, but when it looked online, it installed some weirdo drivers, that i cant remember (some creative something), but they werent SB live! anyway. So i tried to install the KX and the NGO, with no success, the best i got was one installation that froze the windows, rather than crash it... ok, so i restart in safe mode, edit the KX.inf add my card with its vendor id, product, and revision and all, add new hardware, (still in safe mode) and the windows installs the kx with no problem, so i restart, and the BSOD (blue screen of death) pops up, and now i am restarting as i type (yeah i am using another pc in case someone is puzzled by that) to go into safe mode to remove the drivers!

i used the M-Full version, windows Vista x86 (32-bit) sb live 0080, and kx/ngo drivers, thats to sum it up, yet nothing new! still not one successful installation!

PS. I tried to install the original drivers that came with it, and that also crashed windows.

I am sorry to say that I think that one (SB0080) is a fake.

What did Windows detect it as (I would guess Creative Audio PCI (ES1371 / ES1373) or something similair)?

Try searching the internet for that model number, and see what comes up... Here is a quote I read from another site regarding that model number:

The creative Asia people say that the sound card i have(Model No. SB0080) is not, and i quote, "a genuine Creative sound card"

Please see the following for a list of cards that are compatible with kX:
kX Soundblaster Compatibility List

I would be wary of anything purchased from the same place that sold you that card, even if the model number is on the above list (as some fakes appear to have a genuine model number on them).

BTW: Even though the chip on the card says EMU10k1 on it, it most likely is not a real one.

An EMU10k1 chip looks like this:
EMU10k1 chip
Note that it is a large square chip, while an ES1373 chip looks like this:
ES1373 chip
Note that it is a smaller rectangular chip.

You r right again, this is what the windows did detect it, and its sure is the smaller chip, so i guess this means i have to pay them a visit, and lets hope i wont have to do some ass whoppin. anyway, its hard to find live cards, they r not that available, but if i do, i'll keep u guys posted, thanks again for the professional level of reply!
