BSOD Bug with BASS Soundsystem
Hi, I just downloaded the bass sound system sdk 1.8 from http://www.un4seen.com/, I extracted the zip and I tried to run an example called 3dtest.exe that was included with it.
Immediately after I doubleclicked it, a BSOD appeared, saying there was an error in kx.sys I haven't seen yet what kind of output mode bass tries to use, but I don't think it should give this kind of behaviour. kx information : ----Hardware / Software configuration--------------- Driver Name:kX Audio Driver (Debug) Driver Date: Mar 2 2003 03:57:33 Driver Version: 5.10.00.3530 - debug DB Name:none SB0060 5.1 [d000] PCI Information: Device: 21102 Subsys: 80611102 ChipRev: 7 Card has MPU device Card model is '5.1' Card HAS AC97 codec Codec name: SigmaTel STAC9708 3D Extension: SigmaTel 3D Enhancement Codec is 2.0 compliant Capabilities[6940] : DAC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit- ADC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit- Ext Capabilities [80]: -PCM surround DAC- Port: d000 Irq: 18 Playback buffer: 20a0 Record buffer: 4000 Number of AC3 buffers: 8 Tank memory: 256 kb ---------------------------------------------------- And I'm running it on a AMD Athlon 1Ghz/256MB SDRAM/Via KT133a chipset with an SB Live! 5.1 bulk in WinXP Pro w/ SP1 I think the drivers are running quite well, but there also seems to be another smaller problem with storing the configuration. I started using kx from 3529, but when I upgraded to 3530 and reset the configuration, the drivers didn't work anymore when I logged on in another user. I had to install the drivers again in that user before I was able to reset the configuration. Sometimes (I think after more than 1 user has been logged on) the kx DSP gets completely messed up, so I have to reload my configuration regularly. |

I can reproduce the exact same bug. Thankfully, none of my other DS3D apps seem to trigger this crash.
Oh, I suppose some specs are in order. Intel Celeron 1Ghz Intel 440BX (ABIT BE6) 512MB PC133 Live! 5.1 Windows XP Pro SP1 I'll install 3531 tomorrow and see if it solves the problem. Last edited by kode54; Apr 3, 2003 at 01:08 PM. |

Reproduced with 3531, this time with basstest.exe, for this rather bare crash notice:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xF7EC37F6, 0xF3FAAAB0, 0x00000000) *** kx.sys - Address F7EC37F6 base at F7E62000, Datestamp 3e8215be Adding the following, for completeness' sake: ----Hardware / Software configuration--------------- Driver Name:kX Audio Driver (Debug) Driver Date: Mar 27 2003 00:01:41 Driver Version: 5.10.00.3531 - debug DB Name:none SB0060 5.1 [c800] PCI Information: Device: 21102 Subsys: 80611102 ChipRev: 7 Card has MPU device Card model is '5.1' Card HAS AC97 codec Codec name: SigmaTel STAC9708 3D Extension: SigmaTel 3D Enhancement Codec is 2.0 compliant Capabilities[6940] : DAC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit- ADC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit- Ext Capabilities [80]: -PCM surround DAC- Port: c800 Irq: 11 Playback buffer: 20a0 Record buffer: 4000 Number of AC3 buffers: 8 Tank memory: 256 kb ---------------------------------------------------- Another bug, whenever I try to load presets from the MRU list, I get Internal error #3002. They work fine if I load them manually. With 3530, the first entry in the MRU list would silently fail, while the second would work. (This might have been due to manually editing the master left/right volume levels in a saved preset to match my older presets. I resaved the result this time.) |
