Hello,
for my Win Me System I installed the Kx drivers V3528 (V3530 doesn't install) for my Creative CT4760 card. During installation I got two error messages, one upon first start of kx mixer: "kx error: error initializing WinM subsystem" and the second after rebooting Windows after the kx logo appeared first: "Error: Incorrect settings file". This error messages didn't show up again since that. The kx driver itself seems to be functional, no distorted sound, however the DirectSound drivers exhibit extreme latency (almost half a second!!), and I cannot change this with the controls of my sound applications. Also, playing around with the kx drivers' buffer settings didn't help. The ASIO drivers work well, down to few milliseconds. As I use Seer Systems "Reality" as my main sysnthesizer, I need the DirectSound drivers (Reality doesn't provide ASIO), but with this latency it is impossible to play. Creative's original drivers for the CT4760 didn't show the problem, latency there was in the milliseconds range. What should I do, can I get around this somehow? Thanx! |

Set Audio Hardware Acceleration to "Full" and sample quality to "Best", under Sound and Multimedia Properties, if you haven't already done so.

DirectSound latency
Have done this already with no improvement. What else should I do to find the problem?

ll problem is that "Reality" is hardcoded for use with VxD directsound, i believe it
well, the actuall problem is that "Reality" is hardcoded for use with VxD directsound (i think), i believe it is slow with all of WDM drivers... dunno if anything could be done with this...

I checked Reality's user manual and found this statement: "Reality requires a soundcard which supports the DirectSound portion of DirectX directly". Does this explain anything?
I switched between the kx..(DirectSoud) and the kx..(WaveOut) drivers, with no noteceable difference in performance. Why do Creative's drivers perform so much better? I really would prefer the kx drivers for the routing options. |

Hey, wouldn't that be a nice feature to add in a later revision of the kx driver?

>Why do Creative's drivers perform so much better?
Because when you install their drivers in 98SE/ME - VxD version is installed by default... try to install their WDM drivers and you'll see the same behaviour.... > wouldn't that be a nice feature to add in a later revision of the kx driver - Add what? Reality requires update - not kX... Try to ask about that at Reality's support forum... Reality is not compatible with WDM...

thanx for the fast answer. I will try and ask the Reality guys in their forum, we'll see what their answer is....
(maybe their answer is that .vxd drivers perform better than WDM drivers). Anyway: You do a great job with your drivers, and I will keep looking what's going on here in the future. And maybe Reality gets the update... fanformusik |
