I am running the 32 bit version of Vista Ultimate. When I uninstalled the kx drivers after posting last night, Vista recognized the default drivers for my Sound Card (Audigy 2) and the sound card started working again.

I installed the latest Creative drivers, and they work as well.

Did you Disable Driver Signature before installing kX?

Even though the soundcard is working with the Creative driver and the 3 Gigs of memory installed, only 2 Gigs of memory will be used unless you're running a 64 Bit version of Windows. The 2 Gigs memory limit is something that's related to the 32 bit Windows environment.

Maybe Creative wrote their Vista driver to somehow let the soundcard operate even though, more than 3 Gigs of memory is installed.

Any way, kX is not fully compatible with Vista yet. Maybe you have a point.

I think that maybe you are confusing the (default) application limit with the OS limit (which is 4GB).

Why on earth did I have 2 Gigs in my head so firmly, I don't know, but that's wrong. 32 bit versions of Windows can use 4 Gigs of memory.

OK Scratch everything I said except: Did you disable Driver Signature at startup?

Hehe, in any case, I think that this issue most likely is a kX bug (I could be wrong of course), and (if so) I am sure that E. will get it sorted out.

this is definitely a kx bug. if i pull out the ram down to 2
kx works perfectly. put in 2 more gigs and it's broken again

Same here. But from creative's beta site looks like they driver has/had a familiar issue.

The answer was (which i think helps nothing):
Quote:
We are aware of the second issue (i.e. 3GB or more memory causing issues) this is caused by interaction problems of hardware and os
