osd doesn't work

At first I could get the osd working for the volume on my aud 2 plat ex but now when I adjust the volume on the breakout box,nothing happens and the osd display has disappeared.
I looked in the settings and it said that osd and volume etc. were on so I decided to clik them off then on again but still no go.
Any one know what's wrong?
btw I have xp os with sp1
