Tempo and volume issue with different latencies

I figuered out a really curious bug yesterday. My buddy and me were mixing yesterday with Traktor DJ Studio 2. The two PCs were hooked together with a mixer. Our specs:

His system:
Athlon XP 2000+
512 MB DDR CL2
Windows XP Pro SP1
Creative SB Live! Player
kX 3533b

His system:
Athlon XP 1600+
756 MB DDR CL2
Windows 2000 Pro SP3
Creative SB Audigy2
kX 3533b

We ran Traktor with ASIO. He set his latency to 10 ms and I to 2 ms. Everything seemed to work until we played the 100% same song. The result was curios: The tempo was not the same and my volume was lower.

After I set my latency to 10 ms, everthing worked fine - same tempo, same volume.

So where could be the reason? kX, soundcard, Traktor?
