Since 3533, I have an install problem on a win98SE system with SB060 KXdrv and SB102 with APSLive 1.84 drv.
It's the new version of sfman32.dll : APSLive 1.84 can't manage it.

On 3533 release I could copy the old one back in windows system folder and everything was fine.

If I do that on 3534, APS works but KX stops to work.

I got 2 endlessly messages on startup :
1 - Unable to initialize KX, please reinstall, if you are installing, ignore this message (or something like that)
2 - Unable to get 8010 instance (but I didnot see if this second message comes from KX, APSLIVE or anything else)

Do you think I could find a workaround? Do you think I should test the registry tweaks you wrote in your changelog notes?

On my 2 others machines with SBLive cards, no specific problems at the moment :

No Problemo for Win XP SB060 & SB102 both with KX 3534
No Problemo for Win98SE SB102 KX 3534

what do you mean? does it influence kX Synth only? or Vienna? or Mixer?...

this is APS/Creative driver's message
it should not be affected by the registry settings

When I say >> KX stops to work
I mean that on each system startup I got these messages

1 - Unable to initialize KX, please reinstall, if you are installing, ignore this message (or something like that)
2 - Unable to get 8010 instance

The first message appears on windows startup when I copy the old SFman32.dll (v 4.06.501) in windows system folder.
Then I can't see KX mixer in tray and it does not launch if I click its shortcut. but everything looks OK in control panel/devices manager.

The second message appears when I copy the new SFman32.dll (v 5.12.01.0130-1.00.0000) in windows system folder and then it's SBLive102 with apslive drvs not working.

I don't use Sounfonts, Vienna or KXSynth but Gigasampler (W98), gigastudio (WXP), VSTI or external synths. I'm talking about KXMixer and sound workin'.

try to install the monitor (kxdev.narod.ru)
install 3534a as usual
reboot

if kxmixer refuses to start -- ignore
start the monitor
now 'Run...' -> 'kxmixer --startup'
note any messages displayed by the monitor

if the kxmixer is loaded, quit it

now switch sfman DLL
run 'kxmixer --startup'
note any messages

Thanks a lot

After further testings I realized I made a mistake
It is not sfman32.dll problem though I still have to use the old version to make APSLive 1.84 work
I can't understand why but whatever I do I can't make 3534a working on this system
No problem on the other machines and systems
No problem on the same machine with Windows XP boot partition and kx handling the two cards

I could not monitor anything simply because whatever I try I got the same message

Title bar says : KX setup

The message translation is something like :

Error initializing soundcard
Reinstall drivers. If you did not reboot after installation do it now.
If you are installing KX drivers ignore this message

And KX mixer refuses to start even with 'kxmixer --startup' command line
and even after a "kxsetup" --clean

The strangest thing is that everything is OK in the control panel/device manager

I tried many things
Removed one soundcard : same message
Tried to install KX for the two soundcards : same message

Back to 3533final : everything OK

Install of DirectX 9
Reinstall of IE 6.1
New tests on 3534 : Same error and message whatever I do

Back to 3533final : nothing works anymore and same message

Finally, to get a stable system back, I had to reinstall KX 3533 after "kxsetup"--clean
reboot under dos and do a "scanreg /restore" to get back the morning registry

And now everything is OK. I can work.

What can do this in the last changes
May be the things you did to "Improve support for multiple devices"
Don't know.
I read a thread about problem with Ati Catalyst driver 3.4 (I have a Radeon 7500)
It did not work for me under XP (had to reinstall previous driver) and kx works
but I recently installed it on the Win98SE faulty system. and kx does not work
Should I search this way?

I would say it's a registry problem (after restoring everything OK)
I thought KXsetup --clean removed all KX registry entries.

I think I wait next release to see if it is the same.

install the monitor tool [kxdev.narod.ru]
install 3534a
reboot
there might be an error message
reboot
there might be the same message
now open the monitor window
run kxmixer then
watch any output in the monitor window

rebooted 4 times after KX drv install

Each time (except 1st one) launched Monitor.exe

Then tried to launch KXmixer

It is just the same as before

Control panel says everything OK

But launching KXMixer always shows the same message on startup and KXMixer refuses to launch

Back to 3533 Final. Everything OK (except new sfman32 incompatible with APSLive1.84

Any other Idea?

Does anyone use 2 sblive one kxdriver 3534a, other APSLIve 1.84 under Win98SE and succeed?

Installation Instructions.

1. Copy dbgmsg.sys file from either Win9x or NT directory (depending on OS yous use)
into windows/system32/drivers folder.

2. Run dbgmsg.reg.

3. Reboot.

Actually no message
When I follow the install instructions, my system does not reboot. I have to start in safe mode and delete registry key created by monitor to restart

the dll should be in \windows
the vxd - in \windows, too

btw, try w/o applying the .reg file -- it might be necessary for 2k/xp only (I'm unsure because I've never used it for win9x)
if this fails, simply search the net for -any- debug monitor (there should be a lot of them available)

you should copy only dbgmsg.sys from "win9x\" to "windows\system32\drivers"
running *.reg file is required.
All other files may stay in the same directory as monitor.exe

(this is how files are placed with original numega setup)

Talking about monitor
well, sorry i can't make monitor work.
Or may be it works but I don' t know.

I've copied the files.

It seems to work because monitor launches but the only message I got is when I open a driver and show, for exemple, emuaps.vxd . It gives a message that driver is already started.
But it still give no message when I try to launch KXmixer.

I'm gonna try again today but it is less interesting for me to use APSLive 1.84 (They been long a real good alternetive too for creative ones) since KX gsif driver
With gsif driver, I can now make music under XP.

I profit you are both in this room to thank you again for sharing all your work.
I'm really impressed by what you do.

Kx and ufx rock the whole music galaxy.

I tried yesterday something inimaginable only one year ago.
2 soundcards. SB102 handling gigastudio with tons of good sounds, sb060 cubase SX with tons of plugins and vstis, Reason synced on a second machine with KX too.
Men! That was just more than great! No words to say what I feel.
