Unable to Adjust Settings
Hello everybody,
I first installed the kx project on a previous Windows XP Pro installation, and I've since reformatted. I've gotten everything else up and running, but I've been having this weird problem with the kx project. It seems to work fine for a while--although I have had the problem occur immediately after the restart following the installation--but then it switches the AC97 from Mic (where I keep it usually) to TAD, and the 3DSE from Off (usually keep it) to High. I don't get any sound when this happens, and when I change the settings back, they don't take. That is, I can open the drop-down menus to select Mic and Off again, but it doesn't change anything and when I leave the AC97 tab and come back (or just click the AC97 tab again to refresh it) the settings are back to TAD and High. I thought maybe it was a bug with the 3550 version, so I switched back to the 3538 that the main site lists as stable and still get the problem. I haven't even managed to pin down what causes it to bug out. I thought maybe it was something in Lord of the Rings Online, since I play that, but I've had it bug right after the install, so I'm not sure. Any help at all would be great, since my normal audio is from Creative, doesn't sound very good at all, and doesn't handle Lord of the Rings Online well. As a final note, I also played Lord of the Rings on the previous Windows XP Pro install with the kx drivers just fine, no trouble at all, and there haven't been any major updates to the game since then. Any information or help you could provide at all would be greatly appreciated, since I'm started to get frustrated. Thanks for your time, -Crawler EDIT: I had just reinstalled kx before posting this, and it was working fine when I started writing the post. In the five minutes it took me to write this, it's bugged out again. Can't change any settings, no sound. Internet Explorer was the only program running. It seems I can change things in the Master and Recording tabs, like sliders, but not in the AC97 or Ins 'n' Outs tabs. Last edited by crawlerxp; Jun 23, 2011 at 06:09 AM. |

Re: Unable to Adjust Settings
Have you tried re-seating the card in the PCI slot?

Re: Unable to Adjust Settings
You know, that seems to have done the trick. I hadn't really considered it, but here's hoping. I'll definitely be back if it bugs out again. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Unable to Adjust Settings
If you think about it, all communication with the card has to go through the PCI slot, so if it is not seated properly, or some pins have some corrosion or dirt or whatever (which sometimes gets fixed just by re-seating the card), then you can get some seemingly strange results (i.e. different pins are used to access different functions, so depending on which pins are affected (not making good contact) you might get different results (e.g. maybe you can read a setting but not write to it, etc, or if the contact is intermittent, maybe it works OK sometimes, etc)).
