Hard ASIO crash with PPG Wave Steinberg VST instrument
I just installed a vsti I haven't used in awhile. Steinberg (or Waldorf, not sure who the official brand is) PPG Wave 2.V. It appears when I use the kX ASIO driver /w this instrument. I get no sound, followed by a hard crash within 30 sec. More details:
I've tried using Sonar 2.2 and Tracktion as sequencer hosts. Both exhibit the same behaviour, loading up the vsti and attempting to play sounds results in a crash and no sound whatsoever. The crash requires a reboot, you can't get into the task manager. Switching from kX ASIO to DirectX drivers in either host cures the problem, and the vsti operates perfectly. It also worked ok with my old creative drivers using ASIO. Any ideas? Things seem to point to some buginess in kX ASIO somewhere... fwiw all my other vsti's function perfectly, so this behaviour is very strange... I believe there is a demo version of ppg wave available on steinberg's website if you require it to test. fyi my system is: audigy 2, aug 2 03 build of kx drivers, win2k sp3, p4 2.12ghz, 768mb ram., PPG Wave 2.V ver 1.2 Thanks again Eugene, |

Funny you mention that, because I have never managed to get PPG Wave working with any version of KX drivers. All other VSTi work just fine. I get a crash as soon as I try to play a note.

Hmm, well looks like I'm not the only one. As I said, you can avoid the crash by using DirectX drivers in your host, but then that sort of defeats the point of using kX imo. I can't get 50ms latency to work without crackles using DX, whereas ASIO gives me 10ms perfectly.

so, guys -- a question
![]() is there a -stable- way for reproducing the bug without dealing with partially-cracked software? ![]() has anybody tried the demo version already and checked if it is affected by this issue?.. (-- I don't like the idea of installing lots of similar VSTi's )and, btw, kX should not depend on any particular VSTi because the ASIO driver even doesn't know if there are any loaded... (at least, in theory) /E |

first, I just tried the demo and there is no crash.
second, yes I am using the cracked version. I do however have the original disk around here somewhere. I'll hunt it down and reinstall the original and see if the problem still occurs. Sorry to bother you with this if it turns out to be the crack's fault, Eugene.. :/ |
