Stuck volume controls

I posted this query a little while ago, but I think I put it in the wrong forum so I am posting again hopefully in the correct one.

Last month I bought an Audigy 2 card. Not only did I have problems installing the drivers, but once installed, it didn't work properly. After a search on the web I read about kX and have just downloaded and installed the kX Audio Driver. At last I can actually hear some music, both tracks on my harddrive and audio cd's! One thing though, I have MusicMatch 8.1 and Winamp5 and I have found that the volume control on both no longer works.

I have read some post about low volume since driver install (thread started by joebloggs) and I think this is related to it, but quite frankly I could not follow the thread as it went over my head. I have Windows 98SE installed and what little I did understand of the discussion, this problem is more likely to happen with the older operating systems. Can someone explain to me out there in very simple terms what's happening and why and if there is anything I can do about it?

Yes Winamp 5 beta version is available to download, it's very good.
