SBLive 5.1 B400 record bug??

Installed the current beta drivers on a WinXP Athlon 1ghz/512 Ram/ mobo Gigabyte GA-7zx/KT133 chipset system with SBLive5.1 B400 card.

After tweaking system defaults I got clear sound both in and out of the card- somewhat better sounding to me than the Creative drivers but I had one big problem. None of my wav recording apps could record what they heard. The primary KX driver was selected as the record device in each app.

So, I'm wondering if this was a routing problem or if I did not have the correct KX driver component selected. Reviewed the support files but could not solve this problem. Wish I could. At this point I've run a system restore and brought back the Creative drivers with no problems other than reconfigging the apps and retweaking mixer settings.

The following apps would not record input though signal was getting in and out of the computer using the standard line-in on the card and the suggested rear-out line to the speakers:

1. PowerTracks 8.0 could hear input and playback its wav files but could not record input through the line-in. I spent quite a while trying all the volume up mixer options including AC97 I could find in the KX mixer. I must admit I was too new to the router to make much sense of it so I wonder it that was where I goofed up or if there is just a bug for the apps listed below. I just left the router in its default mode. I figured that if the audio is getting in and out then the app should be able to record it.

2. Cmuzys 1.3 would not record or playback- but lack of playback was probably do to a config problem within that program. Did not spend much time on it.

3. The basic Nero 5.0 wav editor would playback but not record. Priamry KX driver was selected as record driver - so I wonder if I should have chosen oen fo the other KX driver options for recording. Should have played with this more.

Powertracks of course is a cheapie program but I really like its retro simplicity. It does seem to rely heavily on Windows mixer devices so the problem may well be there.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
