Sb0220 no Rear Sound

i have the same problem i have tried too everything but still no sound from rear and i cant figure it out that i hadn't connected the dsp corectly

I've tryed all of tips at this forum and there is still no sound at rear out jack.
The native Creative driver enables the rear out, so the problem is in kx driver, not in hardware.
Maybe the problem fixed in 3538 beta or there is another way to fix?

I buy a sb0220, I tried original driver but it really suks, but the rear an subwoofer works fine, I tried kx drivers and I was very impress for the sound qualitty, but the problem is that my rear speakers and subwoofer doesn't work. When this bug will be fix, it is know this bug by the kx team?, will they try to fix-it? when. All respect for kx team

Does your center speaker work?

Because I can only get sound out of the 2 front speakers. (plus I can't even get the Creative drivers to install properly).

With the new alpha drivers the drivers at least finds the card and even gets the model correctly. The only thing is that I can't get sound from my rear speakers, the center speaker or the subwoofer..

No my subwoofer and center output dosn't work at all, no sounds the only output wich work is front left and front right. With my original creative drivers all the outputs work, but I don't have the quality of the sound wich is on the kx drivers, I wait for the new version hope that will be fix this problem

I have the SB0220, and have the same problem-no rear sound. This card is detect by kX drivers how SB022x. What else?
I made all changes described on this forum, but still no rear sound

I'm think the register 0x5f is wrong. When I wrote 0x00 to it then it will disable front sound (nominal value 0x30 give front and center sound), but is still play!.

It will help somebody. This card constain Sigmatel codec: STAC9758. Datasheet is available on internet. The EMU procesor is: EMU10k1-JFF type.

I'm going to experiments today with other register by "kxctrl --gui" command.

Have any idea?

If value 0x00 disables center/lfe, then it is good register. STAC9758 is complex codec. If kx drivers do not touch some of it config registers, then if it is in default state and then it should work. Maybe you need to set volume for center/lfe channel in this ac97. Try to set ac97 register 0x36 to 0 and emu10k1 5f register must be 33

kxctrl -sac97 36 0

And if this doesn't work then try
kxctrl -sac97 38 0
too.This sets wolume for rear channels. I don't know if this sblive has swaped rear and center/lfe channels. Previous sb live uses rear ac97 output as center/lfe.

edit: sorry, register should be 38 (was 36)

Pazd You did mistake. I will write it again, register 5f (sptr 5f 0) don't control center or any other channel. I have tried write to it 0x00 but all available channels still paly.
I have also good information! For enable rear sound you will redirec register 0x64 on STAC97. Write on kxctrl:
'sac97 64 f600'

After that you have enable rear chanel, but it consist "copy(front sound)".
On SB022x rear and center are swaped too, but problem occurs because there isn't sound on rear (phisical center) chanel besides vol register 0x38.

How change it?

'sac97 64 f600' - this is not what you wanted

I didn't do any mistake. emu10k1 register 5f is correct and must be set to 0x33.

You are at stage where linux alsa users were 5 month before, but in linux alsa this card is working for 4 month now (all 6 channels).

Main problem is not STAC9758. Main problem is emu10k1. emu10k1 is connected to ac97 by ac97 link and you have to configure emu10k1 to send rear channels to ac97 (it will not do this as default - and this is set in register 5f).

set emu10k1 register 0x5f to 0x33
set volume in ac97 (maybe additional steps are needed too)
register 0x36 to 0
register 0x38 to 0

and rear outputs are on 0x0d and 0x0e of emu10k1 - this is diffent then on older sblive (old lives uses 0x08 and 0x09), you must setup you own dsp routing for rear channels.

OK! Don't be angry. I known a little EMU architecture. After entry 'sac97 64 f600' I switch rear outputs to signal from front channel, that is temporary solution, but for a moment work.

If you set register 5f and route signal (in DSP) to output 0x0d,0x0e, and you hear nothing from rear then problem is probably in ac97 config and try to play with it.

SB Live with this codec can be setup to disable route from analog to front speakers I think - this is just note.

I'm going to explain all now.
To enable rear sound with played all rest (sound 5.1) musts:
In 'kxctrl' write to 0x5f EMU register value 0x33, and in kX DSP panel insert 'epilog_k1'. Don't delete inserted 'epilog'. On 'epilog_k1' conect out13 and out14 to outputs 'rearl' 'rearr' from 'suround' (or other).
Thats all describe before Pazd-thanks a lot.
There is some problem, after reebot Win register 0x5f come back to value 0x30, and you must reedit it. Second ploblem is unpluget inputs on 'epliog_k1', that hapens sometimes.

All changes in AC97 register described by me before, aren't need.

Play any film with 5.1sound (I played Terminator3). Run kX mikesr, and check current sound sysytem, it must be set to 5.1. Check vol position too. Then run on WIN MS-DOS 'kxctrl' with parametr' --gui'. Next enter
'sptr 5f 0 33', check it, enter: 'gptr 5f 0'. Then, dont quit kxctrl and run kXDSP. Insert plugin 'epilog_k1'. Don't delete visible 'epilog', only disconect lines to out8(analog rear l), out9(analog rear r), and conect this lines direct to out13, and uot14 on inserted before 'epilog_k1'. At this moment You wiil hear rear sound

If doesn't work jump to 'kxctrl' and enter: 'sac97 36 0', 'sac97 38 0'. Also check STAC97 mikser: 'gac97 64'. You may enter 'sac97 64 d606'

And don't forget plug cable to rear output!

This solution has some weakness, all changes are deleted on reboot Win, an you must do it again.

, thanks a lot. Right now I'm listening to music from the rear output from a stereo CD, redirecting the sound to out13 and 14 of an epiloglt k1

For my crossover, I only have to find to who output should I redirect in order to get output from the center and subwoofer line, as my mixer insists in telling me that my live 5.1 is just 4 outs.

For the front you still have to use the old epilg. Btw, this trick is not affected obviously by the swapping. You have rear output all the time.

I solved problem I needed just type 'sptr 5f 0 33' and 'sac97 36 0'.
In previous atemp I typed all

Now all works fine, but rears are little silenced.

Yes the rear sound is silentest, but you can fix it easy. Insert plugin 'x4' or 'stereo vol' (from standard palet) and conect it before 'epilog_k1'. In 'stereo vol' you can setup adequate volume but it often is x4, so 'x4' is also good.

And now a important requet:
Eugene fix all problems with SB022x in new relase of kX, but He need This information about yours cards:

1. full card model name [as shown by the kX Mixer]
2. PCI ID [as shown by the 'hardware/software configuration'
3. AC97 codec ID [ --- "" --- ]

LibertyCabbage look at post no.48, and do exactly the same and in the same sequence. If you don't hear rear sound it wiil help. If center doesn't play it may be another problem, check surround settings(must be 5.1).

get AC97 mikser settings ('gac97 64'), and next experiment with this value

Insert plugin 'x4' or 'stereo vol' (from standard palet) and conect it before 'epilog_k1'. In 'stereo vol' you can setup adequate volume but it often is x4, so 'x4' is also good. And now a important requet: Eugene fix all problems with SB022x in new relase of kX, but He need This information about yours cards: 1. full card model name [as shown by the kX Mixer] 2. PCI ID [as shown by the 'hardware/software configuration' 3. AC97 codec ID [ --- "" --- ] Pease write it here Thanks a lot everybody

If you don't hear rear sound it wiil help. If center doesn't play it may be another problem, check surround settings(must be 5.1). get AC97 mikser settings ('gac97 64'), and next experiment with this value
