Thanks for the quick replies, hopefully someone will be able to help me with the older ac97.
I'll show what I'm doing step by step and maybe you can pinpoint what I'm doing wrong. 1) Open kx Mixer. 2) Open Surround settings and set it to 5.1 Move Mode and save settings. 3) Run kxctrl --gui 4) I type sptr 5f 0 33 then I hit enter. It says wrote PTR: reg=5f ch=0 val=33 5) Then I type gptr 5f 0 then I hit enter. It says PTR[reg=5f; ch=0]=33 6) Then, with kxctrl still open, I run the kx DSP. 7) I insert the kxepiloglt_k1 box. 8) I disconnect Out8 and Out9 from the epilog box. 9) I connect the sL from the surrounder to the Out13 of the kxepiloglt_k1. Then I connect the sR from the surrounder to the Out14 of the kxepiloglt_k1. 10) I save the settings as kxdefault and in the Save/Restore settings box I click the checkmark with the default DSP, Version Ind., and Card Ind. checked. 11) I run Speaker Test. 12) I get sound from the Front Left and Front Right speakers. 13) I do not get any sound when I click the Center, Left Rear, Right Rear, or Subwoofer. 14) I close Speaker Test and go back to the kxctrl window which still has the sptr and gptr writings on it. 15) I type sac97 36 0 then I hit enter. It says wrote AC97: reg=36 val=0 16) I type sac97 38 0 then I hit enter. It says wrote AC97: reg=38 val=0 17) I run speaker test again and I get front left and front right sound but no center, left rear, or right rear. When I click the subwoofer nothing happens either. 18) With the kxctrl still open I type in sac97 64 d606 and hit enter. It says wrote AC97: reg=64 val=d606 19) Then I do Speaker Test again but still only the Left Front and Right Front speakers give sound. 20) I checked the plug and yes it is in the Rear Output space ![]() Hopefully I did something wrong here that someone can point out.... thanks in advance for your help. |

Don't do this, your problem is diffrent. (I don't know where, but is diffrent). You have old sb live. Your sb live should work with current drivers. On new sb live center/lfe is working, only rear is missing., this is not your case.

I had the Creative drivers and I didn't get rear or center sound. Are you sure kX isn't required to get that sound? It could be the speakers but it seems others are having similar problems (no rear or center) so I don't know. Maybe someone else knows more about the old version I have. If you're sure that it should work with the creative drivers then could you detail how to set it up for 5.1 because maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Yep, your case is no way related to this "SB220" stuff... btw. Do you use digital connection to your speakers/amp? (and what speakers/amp do you use?) |

if it is a digital connection, then you will only got 2.0 sound (without using creative's proprietry cable or 3 seperate cables)

Yours card wiil work on kX 3537. Get from 'hardware/software' PCI VEN and SUBSYS code and check if it is in 'kx.inf'. If isn't you have unknown model.
If your code differ only on one position you may tray to reedit 'kx.inf' and insert your card code to the nearest model. Sometimes it will work. Another tips is get form internet datasheet to STAC9708 and look at register table. Then on 'kxctrl' modify it. The command 'stac97 xx yy' give you control to allregisters of AC97 codec. First try to set volume registers to max. vol. |

I am using the Altec Lansing VS3151 speakers (5 speakers a subwoofer & a control box.)
I switched the orange cable to the analog/digital out jack and I found a switch on the control box that should enable 6-channel sound so I will reinstall the Creative drivers and try those again. |

!!! I uninstalled kX and reinstalled the Creative stuff. What's different now is I switched the orange plug to the Analog/Digital Out space and I found a switch on the back of the control box which enables 6-channel sound. Now I did the speaker test and I'm getting good sound from the rear speakers (!!) and also the right front speaker. However, the left and center speakers are very muffled. Any idea why this would be and how to fix it? I'll mess around with the settings to try and get it to work right.
Thanks for all the help you've given so far. edit: The front left and center sound is coming from the front right speaker. The FL and Center sounds are quiet then the Front Right is normal. The rear speakers are working good though! Last edited by LibertyCabbage; Oct 1, 2004 at 08:17 PM. |

is that the 9pin digital cable? it so that should work with kX (only the ac97 outputs are affected)
you will need to put your card into Digital output only mode to use it however if the cable is only an RCA connector, you are only sending stereo signal to the speakers

OK, I looked more closely and saw that the Analog/Digital slot is more of a pink, and the original slot I had the cable in is the orange that matches the cable. So, I think my original mistake was not changing the switch on the back of the control box to 6-channel. However, with the orange cable switched, the results are the same.
Without Digital Output Only: Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right speakers working correctly. Front Left and Center speakers are not working correctly. With Digital Output Only: No speakers make any sound. So my issue now is to get the Front Left and Center speakers to work right. Currently their sound is playing out of the Right Speaker at a low volume. edit: I will try the kX driver again. Last edited by LibertyCabbage; Oct 2, 2004 at 12:24 AM. |

alright I reinstalled the kX driver and I did the sound test, still no left front or center, so I unplugged the left frontand center and put them back in, now I have the left front !! So I have left front right front right rear left rear, now I just need center and I'm set =o
Anything special I have to do to enable center? |

i'd suggest to create new thread about LibertyCabbage's problem. This "Sb0220 no Rear" thread is already too long to read also about wrong cable connections that have nothing to do with "kX/SB220".

It is difficult question for me, because I haven't digital system. I also don't know anybody who loan me digital decoder.
Typical on all previous version SB5.1 all 6 channels are available on out3 (CNT/LFE). To get proper signal jack connector must have three junction. (Look at datasheet, ant serach on this forum). I don't know it is possible to redirect signal to line in. I think that is impossible. Ohther problem may occur, because to rear analog SB022x use outputs 13/14 EMU, different than others SB. For digital output it will be the same, it will use outputs 13/14. |

Hi!
Thanks for your advices, now all works fine with my sb live! 5.1 but I was only wondering if someone knows how to fix the problem of the unpluget inputs on the epilogt_k1 after loading the kx dsp file? Sorry for my english ;-) |

Could you tell me how to translate from the command line 2 wires from the TIMBRE to EPILOGLT_K1. The input's for the EPILOGLT_K1 are the entrances 13 and 14.

Okay.. Thanks for all the help... I've been able to get things to work a bit better now..
By getting the Epiloglt_k1 out there and connecting the sL and sR from the surounder to the out 13, and 14 of Epiloglt_k1, I've been able to get the surround speakers working. The thing is though, that I lose my center and subwoofer completely. The program for some reason takes the center, subwoofer and sCenter1, and takes them to the epiloglt_k1 also. I've tried to remove the connections, and I've tried to connect the LFE, Center and the sCenter1 to the normal Epilog, but with no luck.. So.. separately, I can get the center and subwoofer, and then the surround speakers to work, but not at the same time.. Any ideas..? Oh, and I have the latest drivers, in which the register values seem to be already correct... |

Rear sound on SB with STAC9758T and KX 3538g could be resolved using port 5f and epilog solution. It not work on SB with STAC9708. Additionaly on SB with STAC9708 and KX 3537 I have rear sound but don't have center/sub. I think both SBs are the new ones. It seems that Creative produces two versions. I still don't have a solutions for problem with STAC9708 version. |

I try 3538c, and it is still problem with rear sound. The 3538c version works like 3538a. Rear outputs plays, but doesn't work volume control from Kxmikser for their. Also doesn't work surround slides. I think the rear stream goes through to output codec. At the same time front sound works fine. I can control theirs' volume and theirs' behaviour from surround panel.
Rear sound works propertly when I make same conections as for 3537 (Insert K1_epilog and conect OUT13, OUT14). |
