Volume increases when browsing..

Hi,

First of all I would like to thank the developer of the kX project for doing a great job!

My problem is this;

When playing music on my computer, and using Internet Explorer (yes I know it's crappy, but I cba to install firefox ), sometimes, when clicking a link, the volume increases from with some 70 percentage points.

I.e. if I have my volume at 10%, and I open Internet Explorer, and press a link, the volume goes to 80%. This is, as you can imagine, very annoying, causing me some major shocks, when Norah Jones suddenly sings for the entire neighbourhood..

My setup is;

ASUS P4S8X mobo
P4 2.4GHz
512MB DDR-RAM
Soundblaster Audigy Player
etc.

Any suggestions will be appreciated..

Thanks,
Clement

[edit]
Oh well.. I tried firefox, but the problem persists..

strange issue, but its best that you keep the volume of your soundcard at 100% (for full quality of the audio) and use your speaker controls to control the volume

I also have the same problem. What happens is when you load up IE or for me anything that uses sound the volume resets itself to what it was at when the current DSP set up was saved.

So if you say added a notch filter to correct a room node, then saved, but your volume was saved at 50% volume it would save that too. Now if you have your volume set at 10% or 100% if you load something that uses sound it will reset to 50%.

I have got this problem as well, which is an annoyance since the entire kX driver is awesome... Anybody got a solution to this?

The thing is the volume control doesn't move within the volume control, and all you have to do is click it to restore it to the volume it was...

Edit: Ah, just hit me, might be a good thing to tell you about my hardware specs

I got a Creative Audigy soundcard running on a P3@733mhz with 1gb of RAM and Windows XP without any service pack. I noticed that the first user in this thread also used a Audigy soundcard. Could probably be something specific to the Audigy series. You that has posted that you experience the same problem, have you got Audigy as well?

hey mi too... it seems that everytime an application that is somehow involved with sound (like media player, activexes in webpages, or even icq and trillian) the vol will reset to the volume last set before shutdown.

does it just affect the "master mixer"? if so, try bypassing it by using src plugins instead of the default dsp http://n.1asphost.com/Chesteta/full%20dsp.JPG (i use the p16v plugin for my wave in since I have an audigy2.) good luck!

this is a known issue. no solution except tweaking 'ins and outs' sliders currently exists

this is crucial man...

any idea wat causes it? is it becos the settings of kx master volumes are not reflected to the applications, which seem to use the vol b4 shutdown that is stored somewhere? can we not find where this somewhere is? does it affaect programs using direct sound only, or all programs? might help alot if we have the code to kx... i am using global audio control to control the volume, so i have to use master volume.... i just use my keyboard to control it...

a possible solution????

ok. now i have both sndvol32.exe and kxmixer open.
scenario 1:
kxmixer at vol <A>
shift master mixer vol in sndvol (the windows mixer) to vol <B>.
kxmixer updates to vol <B>.
open skype.
global vol suddenly switches back to vol <A>.
neither kxmixer nor sndvol reflected any changes tho.

scenario 2:
sndvol at vol <A>
shift vol in kxmixer to vol <B>.
sndvol updates to vol <B>.
open skype.
global vol stays at vol <B>.

somehow, as reflected in scenario 1, even tho kxmixer updates to vol <b> that u set in some other application, its not the same as moving the slider in kxmixer. altho one may say "just use kxmixer then" its avoiding the problem altogether. as stated, i m using global audio control to control my vol, tru the keyboard, so i do not have to click and drag, a huge waste of time. problem is, GAC functions just like sndvol32.exe, thus I will experience scenario 1 the next time i open some program that uses sound.

i have a naggy feeling, as i have mentioned, that moving master vol control w/o using kxmixer, tho the changes r reflected in kxmixer, the code that is being run is diffferent from if u drag the mixer slider.

one possible solution for this may be to run (the same code as when u r dragging the slider, i.e set vol and reflect changes) for when updating the kxmixer when using external programs to set the volume instead of just (reflecting the changes to vol).

in another words, when detecting a change to the master vol, kx should not just (display the change) but also (reset the master volume <again> to the desired vol using its own algo).

just my 2cents.

ok i found something...

i set vol to <0> and did a registry scan ->results <A>
then i scanned for changes when using kx vs sndvol32.

-scenario 1:
when i set the volume to about 10 using sndvol or any external programs, these changes were made (added):

only in senario 2 did the changes persist when i open skype or any other program, in that the vol do not reset to zero. can this be the answer? when sndvol32 or any extternal program is usedm, wave1, 2 and 3 should also be set simultaneously in the registry? I seriously do not know. Will this affect other apps, or any functionality if i do so??

a program to correct the above.

ok. for all of you out there, like me, who dont just use kxmixer but also other programs to change the master volume, but the master volume just will not stay...

ok... i wrote a simple program that looks periodically the wave0-3 settings in the registry so that when wave0 changes, all the rest will follow suit, as per kxmixer. so that when u use the windows mixer or any other program, the settings will stay, and this vol thing will be solved.

goto
http://www.pscode.com/vb/scripts/Sho...=9046&lngWId=3

or pscode.com and search for allvolctrl under c++.

u have to change the registry settings in the code to suit ur software config tho i think. then compile it and put it in the startup.

this is the temporary workaround i created for my computer for now, while waiting for the bug to be resolved... maybe in the meantime i should include checking for wave volumes too...
