Bass cuts in and out???

Hi,

I am having problems with my speakers where the bass keeps cutting out.

To make it come on I have to select and de-select "Toggle 'Digital Output Only' Mode". This causes the speakers to distort then the Bass comes on. This last for about 30 secs to a minute then it will cut out again. It's like it detects the signal then just cuts out.

I really am a novice at this so any simple steps or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am confident I have removed everything to do with Creative from my machine by various scans, registry cleaners etc.

I have tried different PCI Slots also but with no success. All the Bass Redirection is on etc. I am using KX Driver 5.10.0.3537 (SB0162 10K2 df80)

My System

Asus P4P800 Motherboard (800FSB)
2 x Crucial 512MB DDR400 RAM (PC3200)
Pentium 4 2.6Ghz (800FSB)
ATI Radeon 9800 Graphics Card
Windows XP (Home Edition) Service Pack 2
Seagate Barracude 80GB (Master)
Western Digital Caviar 160GB(Slave)
Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy ES/PCI 24bit 3D Bulk Sound Card (5.1) Manufacture No. 70SB016202000
Hercules 5.1 Speakers

Thank You.

Check if you are not re-feeding your system with the same signal, causing phase problems. Also you may have a simple general phase problem. Search the forum for phase and see if it helps.

Thank You for the reply, i've looked for phasing but to be honest it means nothing to me.

Can you explain what I need to do / check?

Thank You.

I do not think you should have the phase problem using 5.1 speakers. I would make sure Surrounder+ is setup properly for 5.1, and "Use Subwoofer output" is checked, as well as "Bass Redirection", and then adjust the frequency for best performance.

Guide to revert phase of a pair of speakers:

1. Double click KX mixer (tray)
2. Open up KX Dsp screen (button)
3. Right click on Kx Dsp screen, and go ADD EFFECT / PLUGIN > BASIC > PHASE
4. In the pop-up window click on V (ok)
5. In the ROUTING element of Kx dsp screen, find the first two connectors in the right (RO_front L and RO_front R)
6. Click on one of them and connect it to the PHASE plugin (upper left side input). Do the same with the other one (the other input in the left side).
7. Pull a cable from the upper right connector (output) of PHASE plugin and connect it to the input of the EQ (you may need to disconnect the cables which are there), if you are using EQ, or connect them directly to the first input on the EPILOG element. Take another cable from the second connector of PHASE plugin and connect it to the second input on the EPILOG element (or in the EQ if you are using one).

Antoher guide:

Just invert L/R virtual cabling in front OR rear (and then experiment with the inverse) and see if it improves

Hope that's easy enough...

If you need pics, there is also guide in the FAQ, but it speaks about a phase/bass problem related to a 4.1 setup, which is why I thought it shouldn't be a problem with a 5.1 setup. In any case, it cannot hurt to try and see if it helps.

Hi,

Thanks again for the replies but again i'm still struggling. Can't get any bass.

Attached is a screen shot, let me know if you get it? This shows what I have set up, just checking I have done it right.

If not could someone advise or even send me a saved setup / screen shot

Thank You.

You've got me there. It seems that this board only allows pic sizes of 1 byte, which makes attaching images basically worthless. You will have to host the pic on your own website, and put a link to it here.

Are you using the "Swap Front and Rear" option in kX Mixer? I think if you are, then you want to connect the phase plugin between sL/sR of Surrounder, and the Analog Rear outs of Epilog.

Hi,

Sorry for the delays in replying....having an extension put in at home and they have knocked the wall down with the phone line on !!

The "swap front and rear" is not selected.

Can anyone take a screen shot of what they think I need perhaps?

Thank you for your patience

Phase shifter is not in the right place.
I just started using this yesterday, so I haven't played with it much, but I am running a 4.1 setup and figured I'd try the guide in the faq to see if it made a difference, and it did (Mind you not much)

Phase should be linked between Surrounder and the Epilog at the rear outputs.

have now tried both setups and it still cuts out with the only way of it to come in is buy selecting and de-selecting "Toggle 'Digital Output Only' Mode".

Any other ideas?

I appear to have solved this problem by deleting all the files in the prefetch folder except the "layout.ini" and it all appears to be fine, helped my machine boot up a little quicker to.

All I can assume is that there may have been an old Creative file still loading in there.

Thank You.
