KX driver corrupts wireless keyboard/mouse (confirmed)
I know there is a topic for this but it is so weird I thought it just has to have it's own topic. Anyway you guys will love this, ok maybe not but you will agree that it's one of the stranger problems.
A long time ago I stumbled on the KX driver and I was happy. Then one day I got a wireless IR keyboard and mouse and had nothing but problems. After some usage the keyboard would stop working properly, some keys stopped responding sometimes and after some more use stopped working completely. A Similar problem occurred with the mouse, it would lag more and more the more it was used. It was usually the mouse or the keyboard screwing up, not both. Restarts and quick shutdowns didn't help, you actually had to shut down the computer for an hour or two to have it working properly again. The quickest method to getting it to work is shutdown the PC, turn off the power (power switch on PSU), turn on the power to drain PSU capacitors and wait 10min which after that it would work. Obviously something messed up the IR receiver and it had to be drained of power before it would function properly again. Some time ago I uninstalled the KX driver for whatever reason and the keyboard/mouse worked PERFECTLY. At that point I didn't see a connection because I tried A LOT of things to fix it but who knew it was due to the sound card driver. Anyway 6 months later (current time) I bought this awesome computer audio speaker system and the XP Creative Live driver blew so I decided to install the KX driver again. Of course the sound difference was immense, especially the subwoofer. Later that day my keyboard started messing up, the very same problem I havn't seen in 6 months and all of the sudden it HIT ME.....the KX driver! Ever since I installed the driver again I am having the same problem. Even though it was obvious I still did another test and uninstalled the KX driver, 3 days now and no problems. It's pretty obvious now that the KX driver seems to be interfearing with my Wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo. God knows how but I'm hoping you guys know too ^^. Trust me when I say I tired everything possible to fix it on this end. Different keyboard/mouse drivers, different port settings, different IR placements, whatever it's all the same. My specs are as follows: ECS K7S5A Mobo 2200+ AMD AthlonXP 512mb PC2700 DDR 200GB HDD 480W Enermax PSU ATI 9100 AGP Video SB Creative LIVE A4Tech Wireless keyboard/Mouse PS2 connections I would love to use the KX driver again since the audio with it is so good but I need my keyboard and mouse more then I need good sound. Hopefully I can have both though and that's why I'm here ^^ |

That is indeed very strange. My (Logitech) wireless keyboard/mouse combo works perfectly with kX.

So I take it there is no solution besides buying a new sound card? Too bad, I love the sound and the amount of control I get from the KX driver

It may not help much but I have a suggestion for you. Download DebugView.
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/DebugView.html That program is used to see messages that the driver (and other programs) are programmed to display. It's mainly used to "see" what happens during a program execution. Run it while you have the drivers loaded and you try to use the mouse and keyboard. See if there are any unusual messages. Also desactivate the kX remote. Maybe the driver is trying to read the mouse and keyboard as if they were remotes controls. |
