Since i getting some crashes and general unstability, witch i believe is related with my SoundBlaster Live! 5.1, i tried the KX drivers.
(maybe i better should move the card up into the PCI slots, what do you, guys, think about it?! Its at entere bottom, upper way are two same Edimax 10/100MBi ethernet cards...? Any ideas?) Looks promising, tought maybe a little too much problematic for not audio geeks to setup, but - well, maybe i get used to it once. Using the 5.10.0.3528 under freshly instaled Win2000, on ST6R Abit mainboard with 1,1Ghp CeleronII CPU, GF2Ti card and the two Ethernet cards, witch one can do WOL. Win2k its SP3 + MS hotfixed instaled and the problems are two: First at all, DTS sound with DVDs did not play at all, but only when i using DirectShow filters - into WinDVD it plays right, but trying DVDplay or DVDsubber - witch is absolutely must for me - it wont work. Any ideas, how to set diferently? Maybe i just messed-up the settings? I using old WinDVD v3, because i hate the new slider, introduced into WinDVD v4 and later (i tried even v4.5.11 platinum, but it suxx like hell - only bigger, worser and with displayflick at start/end?! Holly crap! )Second thing i discovered over the orginal SoundBlaster drivers are, that while playing RealMovie clips, i get sometimes echoying into the output, like the sample (well, part of the mpeg audio stream, or what the hell Real player doing things there) over repeated over and over. And no, there is no WAY for me to update to the RealPlayer one, tought i own my legal copy the RealPlayer and i can do it for free. But since its gui SUXX and the player look like that he can do everything - but i dont need that. And aditionaly, it mess with my system a lot, when i tried it, it set itself to run when i insert DVD everytime, and even i disabled this, it "stick" and run itself everytime i insert a DVD... and thats enought terrible, to i get rid off this crap finally. Aditionaly, i dont even know, if this new version can help, anyone??? So, can anyone help me with this, please? Or its time to back to orginal SoundBlaster drivers, sigh...?

kX Audio drivers aren't tweaked in order to give you best results with DVD / multichannel playback.
however, 3530 release (expected soon) will have better support for this stuff /Eugene |

...ah!
Thanks for explaination, Eugene
Hoewer, im a bit disapointed with it - in fact, i start like the kx drivers - they are small, the support for 5+1 speakers and OUTSTANDING and since Doom3 sound is whole 5+1 it means that next generation of games will be only 5+1 (iD set the standards, you know) and therefore im about to buy 5+1 speakers and this good support i would like to enjoy. But i also like to hear a DTS sound out of DirectShow applications, like DVDplay (a win util to play DVDs, if you ahve installed any decoding filters) and the mentioned and great and necesary DVDsubber Altrought i know, that you cant be blamed for other apps faults, there is not fault into DVDplay/DVDsubber, jut the drivers somewhat did not accept the sound, what suxx. (actually, it should be just a glitch, because when i use WinDVD, the DTS sound works pretty fine, so, please, just a small change, just allow the DirectShow interface to supply kx drivers with DTS sound...!) I cant wait for the .30 ones, because i really missing a DTS sound ...meanwhile, can you tell me, please, what when not for best mutichannel /DVD playback, are the drives for? Im a little bit confused - i maybe wrongly expect that they should be just better, smaller, and faster alternative to orginal SoundBlaster huge drivers???

These drivers are focused on music, not gaming, nor DVD playback...
Also, (as my experience with kX goes atleast) they arn't for the faint of heart, who don't like to experiment... Asfar as my own setup... live 5.1 player, now with 8 channels out, synced and all... so it's kinda like 7.1 sound for a 25$ soundcard... now THAT's what the kX drivers are good in... using evry single bit on the hardware... (and not like creative, selling >100$ soundcards when a simple driver update should be enough) |

Well, music... erm, i tought that it did not matter what source of music this is
Actually, i think that DVDplaybacka nd gaming is, both, quite important parts of SoundCard usage. And i like to experiment - othervise i dont even install them But DTS playback should work, no dubt about it, IMHO. ...heheh, seems that most users have the Live 5.1 Soundblaster, thats good. Well, my output is my handmade done aplifier back in 1991 for Amiga and also handmade done reproboxes - you can check them for yourself there: http://trodas.host.sk/index.php?incl...odas&id=14&c=7 (and on surrounding pictures as well) They still sounds very VERY respectable, but 5+1 is something radically diferent Seems like that time for upgrade come - all modern games will be 5+1 after relase of Doom3, so I have to keep with standards How you connected 7+1 to Live 5.1 ??? BTW, i like on the kx superior (or at least it seems to be! ) support for 5+1 output! =:-))...and hey, can anyone give me a advice, if its not better (stability reasons, my machine still one or two times per 14 days hang for good... ) install SoundBlaster 5.1 Live! into higer PCI slots that the two ethernet cards? I tought yes, because its better when busmaster will be the SoundBlaster, nope?

Re: DTS sound and RealPlayer8 problems
I'm having similar problems trying to have my SBlive!5.1 card decode the AC3 stream from WinDVD Platinum. (Running Win2000 on an Athlon 1.2Ghz)
Sometimes the audio is OK but usually something in the front speakers start to reverb with longer and longer echos until it degenerates into a buzz. The other channels just generate a low volume noise. In the DSP I have directly mapped the FX AC3 outputs to the Epilog analogue outputs. I have tried increasing the priorities of WinDVD and kx and while this has improved it a little it does not seem to be a fix. I also note that CPU usage is running about 75% but memory usage is very low. I've been using kx since 3512 but since I'm not into music I'm just starting to understand all the capabilities of the card and drivers. Waiting patiently for 3530 Quote:

Canuck - whoa, im not alone with DTS problems
So, well, the version you using seems to me a little bit too old one, i have NO PROBLEMS WHATSOVER with DTS sound from WinDVD My problems go, let me say, one level deeper. I using freeware application to play DVDs with subtitles and some special tricks, like noscaled fullscreen playback what nubeliably increase quality of the result - WITH the WinDVD direct show filters. And there is where kx drivers refuse to cooperate on the DTS matter I dont have 5+1 ATM and that it is. Inside of WinDVD 3.0 all working beautifully for me. (i tried even WinDVD 3.1, 4, 4.5.11 or 12 Platinum and such - im not happy with the starting flick of display (v4.5.11) and attempts to real-time sliding into movie (v4+), so i went back to v3 witch i found to be perfect for me) So, instead of waiting you might want to give the latest ones try, its very likely it fix your problems
