Incorrect kX FX Library

Hi

This morning we decided to update from 3534 to 3537 and ran into problems. First we uninstalled 3534 and then ran the 3537 package, at first all was fine and then we got to the part where it installs the driver and chose where to install vst plugins and immediately after that - like a split second - it said the drivers were installed and to reboot.

Upon rebooting there was no sign of the kx mixer starting up and no shortcut to it.

After faffing around for some time, unintsalling/reinstalling/installing 3534 again etc. we decided to do a system restore to a time when we knew the mixer was working.

Having done that we now get the error message "Incorrect kX FX Library. Reinstall kX Software" as a pop up box on startup and anytime we use the kX Mixer short cut (that reappeared upon system restore)

So, we did as told and reistalled, and again the driver install part seemed to be over in a split second - as if nothing had happened iyswim? - at some point we got the message that there was trouble opening mfc42d.dll but that only happened once.

Any ideas gratefully accepted

Windows XP sp2

ok some more info..

it turns out that 3537 was installed over the top of 3534, i'm not sure if this is relevant?

having undone all system restores, we are back to having where we started with no sign of the kx mixer - BUT no error message about the library. when we look in the device manager there is no longer any mention of the soundblaster at all?!! BUT it is htere in system information.

We have just put another soundblaster card in, just incase tehre is a problem with the original card but it makes no difference !

SO i suppose i'm asking - what problems can be caused by installing a newer full version of kx drivers without uninstalling old ones? as that seems to be where the problems began

regards MiniEmma

and yet more snippets ... we'll get there with all the info in the end!!

when we take the soundblaster out of the pc altogether and restart the pc - xp does not seem to notice - surely it should throw up a message about changed hardware or something?

same if we put it, or another sb card, back in - xp doesn't seem to notice
