Help Kx driver 3537 caused my windows 98 system to freeze
I am running a soundblaster audigy card in my old computer still run by windows 98. Had previously downloaded and happily run kx3534 driver. Upgraded to 3537 - result computer freezing on green screen and taking half an hour to load then would declare kx driver error - couldn't find something or other. After ages have finally got 3534 back to running (but machine seems slower than ever) and discovered that by stopping the kx mixer from running at startup have no problems. However once mixer reinstalls sound disappears. Mixer used to work fine before the disasterous upgrade.
Any clues anyone? |

try DH's driver cleaner - and remove all traces of CL/KX and re-install the appropriate KX driver - which may or may not be the latest with win 98 (think I seen something about win98 support dropping off).. ??

Windows 98 support is not included with the 3538i beta release. 3537 has Wiwn 98 support.
Uninstall the driver, and as Maddogg6 says, use Driver Cleaner Pro in safe mode to uninstall residue of Creativelabs and kX Driver installs. Driver Cleaner Pro download: http://driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=76416 Then reinstall the 3537 driver. Come back and report results?

Aggh it gets worse!
I did as was suggested uninstalled and ran file cleaner pro in safe mode then reinstalled KX3537 - same result screen freeze. So I went back into safe mode uninstalled 3537, cleaned all the files out again and reinput kx3534 - result - screen freeze again. Panic!
Spent whole evening ripping files out. In the end deleted the driver which was still resident in the system despite all the cleanings. finally got 3534 and computer to run again but still getting the same message that KX cannot find driver and does not load mixer, but at least I can get music and sounds without. If I could only find my creative audigy disk I'd give up and reinstall this as KX seems too buggy. |

What the hell is happening?
I don't know what is going opn, but no sooner had I posted the last thread, than I shut the computer down - onlt to find it restarted and lo and behold KX mixer et al is now working fine?!!? Some serious wierdness there. Anyway thanks for the advice - I think I will not stretch my luck and try reupgrading to KX3537 but content myself with 3534
Cheers |
