I got the newest version of the KX-Project software +driver.
I use the CREATIVE AUDIGY Soundblaster Platinum WITH Extension Box. My system is XP. the rest of my hardware is: AMD Athlon K7 1,3 GHz(Socket A 266 FSB) CPU VIA KT266 Mainboard: MSI K7T 266 Pro R 1.) the problem is that I get distorted recordings when I use one of the Audio inputs analogically (Aux 1 + 2...for example) The distortion is not very strong but its strong enough to have the highs with slightly harmonic distortion and the low frequencies cut off a little. ...it doesnt matter if its from CD or radio or record player...its allways sounding bad. The recording Level is mid and the peaks do NOT touch the red limit (its all green) what is happening here ???? ![]() 2.) the other thing is that when I try to grab files from a CD digitally they are all the way over peak and badly distorten in general. When I open those grabbed files they are all cut off cause of heavy overdrive. ...but I cant change that with the wav/CD recording level! ...its allways overdrive...like it would be distorted upfront..before the soundcard can manage anything. (this happens on my PLEXTOR and on my DVD drive...in the same way) NOBODY CAN HELP ME SO FAR.... please !!! ![]() is there somebody out there who had the same problems...and solved them ????

What is the version of KX? - 'latest' means nothing.
If you can listen to material from a line in, SPDIF in etc..- then it should be possible to record it ok. - but listen levels and recording levels are independant, seems like you do know this, just re-stateing to confirm your knowledge... If it sounds bad just to listen - then its either malfuntioning card - or levels are too 'hot' going into the card and *may* require an external mixer that will match impedances and allow lowering the level going into the card. Is it an external CD drive or internal? 'Grabbing files from CD digitally - there are 2 possible scenarios I envision - 1) Ripping - usually gets audio data over the PCi Buss and never even goes through the sound card. - if this is the case its a crappy ripping program. or 2) Recording the SPDIF /CD Digital in with a sound recording program. What programs are you using to record? Are you using ASIO or WinMM? - if its ASIO, maybe it clicks and pops from too low of latency settings. - increase your latency setting in KX ASIO CP. For SPDIF recording - do you have SPDIF pass through on - or SPDIF direct recording?? Read about SPDIF (= digital) direct recording on the KX main site docs or knowledge base. I have had distrotion recording problems, and easily adjusted the levels in KX to correct. - OR, lower the output from what it is I am recording. Also - did you make sure your player isnt overdriving the playback?? If you want PM me and Ill give you an email address to send me a clip you recorded and Ill have a look to see if I notice anything - just a small clip that demonstrates best your problem. |

In the mixer, in the AC97 section, the gain slider on the upper right should at zero.
Are you using the default DSP? The recording sliders in the recording section of the mixer (third icon) are independant of the RecL and RecR pins of the DSP. What that means is that you either route a signal to RecL and RecR in the DSP or use the recording sliders in the mixer, you don't use both at the same time. If you do both, the signal will be received two times and it will be amplified, possibly with distorsion. If nothing helps, try to do a reset in the drivers. |

thanks for the help to all you both...
I will try out the different solutions. the effect with recording interference caused by two open recording lines sounds logic....but I tried it and I can not really hear a difference. the sound seems to be still too crispy highs and low bass (like bad mp3 compression) I will try it with several recordings to test... if there is any improvement thanks so far
