3538j bug reports

please report 3538j (J ONLY!) bugs here
--
if the bug can be easily described in 1-2 sentenses, is obvious and would not require any additional details, just post your report in this thread
(example: "3538j link is invalid" or "kxmixer does not open kX DSP window" etc.)
--
otherwise, [if you think the issue is card-specific, configuration-specific, rare, uneasy to reproduce etc.] please start a new forum thread with detailed description, post very brief description here with the link
[example: "sb22x - still no rear outputs" ]
--
please do not FLAME -- it is impossible to sort all the messages posted on the forum if you visit driverheaven once per month! also, do NOT ask about unsupported features, EAX, 64-bit Windows, GPL/Opensource, Linux, MacOS -- read our 'Project Status' thread instead.
--
if you wish to confirm the bug, please post your message to the thread discussing this bug in details, not here
--
if you have any suggestions, please go to General Forum instead. if you find your idea useful, easy-to-implement -- contact me directly by e-mail
--
kX Developers [effects, add-ons, VSTi, instruments etc.]: please feel free to e-mail me whenever you face any issues with the SDK, portability and so on.

A very minor issue:
The first time I opened up the ASIO Control Panel, the 'Sync' method combo box was blank. However, you can still pick a sync method from the dropdown list, and it is shown the next time you open the ASIO Control Panel.

If anyone wants to confirm or comment about this, then please only do so in the following thread: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...649#post778649

<edit>
It appears that this issue may be with all 3538 versions, and not just 3538j.

When I'm starting playback with samplerate of 48000 Hz on A2zsNotebook I hear a single click before the start of the music. With 44.1 kHz it works fine.

It happens both on 16 and 24-bit playback, but on 24 the click is louder.

On Creative driver everything worked fine. I'm using Foobar2000 v8.3.

BTW. Eugene, huge thanks for great job and support for my card.

a2zsnb: input - I have only tested -digital- input: it should work fine as 'CD Digital', however, analog input might not be available. recording is only possible in ASIO mode, WDM seems to produce noise instead of sound (due to unknown reason).
output assignment is very different - you may need to re-connect Surrounder to corresponding epilog pins
click on startup: yes, confirmed. no solution at the moment
asio: confirmed

thanks!

Sb0530 Zs Nb

hello to all, hello eugene

i found a problem with the optical out. i canīt find the coax/optical output, but all other analog are working. i had tried it with proFX k2lt and also with the standard epilog. to get signal for analog, i have to switch the SPDIF bypass on the mixerpage to on, otherwise i get no signal.
do anybody know for what the p16v dropdown in the main mixer page means.
i try the digital in today at evening and report the result
regards

Midi channel 10 doesn't work as percussion channel, but as an instrument one (that is, you hear pianos instead of the drums).

Not true - as long as a drum patch set is assigned as a percussion set in the soundfont you use - they do work.

I'll do some tests to see maybe what youv'e done wrong.

THAT assigns WHAT source is to be recorded in 24/96 format (WinMME only AFAIK).

EDIT: Also - the recording DEVICE HAS to be 'KX Wave HQ'

Let me know what are the results then... I think it's a bug, because before 3538i it used to play fine. But I might be wrong.

Make sure you do a clean install (including removing the registry stuff). I had the same problem the first time I installed, and it was because I tried to do an upgrade install. The problem persisted even when doing a global reset, so it seems a clean install is necessary (I actually had to install 3 times, because for some reason DriverCleaner left the registry information... I ended up deleting it myself (I probably could have used the uninstall feature of the kX installation instead)).

Yeah - I DID do a complete un-install FIRST before installing J...

I cant even force a toned patch to use in channel 10 - short of setting that 'percussion channel' register with KX Control to something other than 10 (0x0A).

I didnt use Driver Cleaner before installing J either - Btw...

Thus - Im thinking the install got hosed.

I had the same problem too, but I have fixed it folowing way:
1. uninstall 3538i.
2. remove all KX-related items from Device Manager.
3. You don't need to use DriverCleaner!
4. reboot.
5. install 3538j.
6. YES, now ch10 works, but plays instrument 01 (Piano). Manipulating with soundfonts still does not help to fix the problem.
6. just run kxctrl.exe -shw 21 0xA one time, as Russ suggested earlier for 3538i. Drums should return to ch10 forever. That's all.

sorry for my english.

i made some tests jesterday evening and i can get only the optical in to work.
itīs like eugene said, the optical is the CD-SPDIF. i only use the ProFX plugins,
tried it to get other inputs (line-in, mic-in) normally and also with p16v, but i canīt get it to work. and also the optical out is not working, only analog. the headphone out is working with "SPDIF bypass" on or off, but the other 3 outīs work only when you set the SPDIF Bypass to on.
the analog outs on the cable are working, the green connector is in SPDIF/Digital Front, the black connector is in Digital Rear, the orange connector is in Analog Canter/LFE, and this 3 outīs are only working when SPDIF Bypass is ON.
can i try something with kxctrl to get the inputs to work?
regards

Hi, thanks for the new version. Unfortunately, the bug I posted in the 3538i thread remains:
"Audigy 2 ZS, detected as SB0390. Epilog contains an error: "analog front" connectors are actually the rear S/PDIF ones. In order to get digital rear, one has to turn on Analog Front output in the mixer, and rewire the epilog as explained."

It seems that front panel sensing / auto mute doesnt work as well as in 3538H.
Mostly noticed with headphones - SPDIF seems a little more reliable.
Headphone and SPDIF (from FP) will work, but no popup.

I noticed even in H a few times it wouldn't sense the change (no popup) - In J now it rarely does. I have all notifications eneabled - and automute checked in KX settings.

Yes, this is a bug for me as well, and it was very confusing as this release happens to be the first time I set up Foobar to resample properly (yes, an Audigy 2ZS) and use HQ.

This was me:

AC3 decoding from external SPDIF has problems:
1) FXBuss 5 has no output
2) Stuttering 'massively'

- through PM its been indicated by another user, that this bug exists in that version as well.

spdif optical out on a2zsnb is not working.
Connected earphones are controlled by spdif slider istead of analog or headphones slider

below same in russian:

koroche govorja, opticheskij vyhod ne pashet na dannoj karte v versii j
krome togo regulirovanie gromkosti na analogovom vyhode (tot samyj, chto sovmeshjon s optikoj) proizvoditsja slajderom spdif'a, vmesto Analogue Front ili Headphones

I think I found a bug in the DSP related to plugin bypass. It is explained in the thread DSP bug in 3538j with plugin bypass activated

What do we know about the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook? I've tried to connect a peak meter to various sources in the DSP, but I can't find a mic/line signal anywhere. Is this some sort of bug? Are the inputs on this card perhaps hardwired to the ASIO recording buses? The ADC plugin in ProFX complains about a missing AC97 codec. Is this card supposed to have one? I'm using analog connections, but I only seem to get sound when I route to the Digital Front SPDIF output. The squid cable with the surround outputs seems to be completely dead. I'd also like to know how the P16V fits in the picture. Perhaps Eugene or someone else could give me a hand here? kX is indeed behaving very differently from when I used it with my Live! Value card...

Okay. I seem to have made some progress. I tried SPDIF bypass earlier in order to enable the squid cable, without any success, for some reason, as they all started working now, after some fiddling, Digital Front maps to the green wire, Digital Rear to the black one and Digital Center/LFE to the orange one. The switch front/rear checkbox doesn't seem to have an effect. Are all codecs in this sound card I2S codecs?

The "Toggle Swap Front and Rear mode" option only applies to analog outputs.
