No offense, but are these speakers counterfeit? I have seen fake ones with identical specs everywhere. What brand are they?

I dont think so, I bought them from AST distributers through the Fox and Fiddle (a bar) where they were setting up speaker systems. One of the people who were setting the Dance floor speakers up. I did a search on google and stuff and a couple of people have been selling them.

I just dont have room in my bedroom for these things and my parents have there own setup downstairs. Dont tell me I've been duped?

oh boy... hope these aren't the same ones they sell around here out of the back of a white unmarked van...... and no I am not kidding.... they try to sell you these speakers like they are some top names with the lables removed and then they end up being either "HOT" or some real pieces of junk......... maybe in Canada they don't to that but down here in the states I see it all the time......

I have the pamphlets describing the specs and they were in the box. I've got the warranty and certificate. they didnt come from a plain whit unmarked van. These guys were hooking up speakers system for dance floor and karaoke in a famous bar here "fox and fiddle". I opened one of them up and the front of the speaker is badged with AST X2-1500, they are not fakes or counterfeit.

I just spoke to a friend who builds systems and has an entertainment sys at home. He's coming by with a reciever to see what these puppies can do. I told him the specs and he says they seem to be high quality and by the weight the magnets and the 2 bottom ports these will shake the house. We'll see. If these speakers do what they say, then I'll keep em. I just gotta spend some money on a reciever and will most likely buy 2 rear and a centre channel! Cant wait. Like a said, these are labelled speakers with warrenty and everything. My parents system is old with a record player and built in unit.. Went by Future shop and also iterated the specs to a salesman and he was impressed and he said to get at least a 500 watt reciever.. Im all geared up for these... I'll post results with the aided ear of a proffesional in the know. Is there anyone else who can explain the specs?

Pics here

I was looking for pics and only came up with the one hyper-linked (scrolld down), though they are not labelled as mine are. They are wrapped in plastic within a box. I wish I had a digi-cam! That picture does not do these justice..

its a smaller company based in elsmere road unit 320 or something didnt check.... ANYWAY, I bought the the JVC rx-6030's at future shop and was told by the rep, seeing my speaker specs, that this receiver wasnt powerful enough and it would distort the speakers at higher volume. I went ahead and installed them at home anyway. The sound, highs, mids and low was simply fantastic. My room shook and my cologne bottles almost tipped. I could hear sounds from cinematics and movies that I couldnt hear before. Simply an amazing set of speakers. One thing, the rep at future shop was right in suggesting that they would distort at higher volume because of this particular reciever and they do. So Im off ot get the yamaha reciever in which was recommended with the specs of my speakers. Im happy that Im not selling these speakers at such low cost or at all...

as effecient as those speakers are it is not necessarily the amount of power but the quality. so keep that in mind while you are shopping. distortion at high levels causes more damage than clipping. cool that you like them, that is the ONLY spec that matters- cost being a factor too.

I can tell by the quality of the sound at mid-level is very clear and well balanced. One thing I noticed is that even though I get a low resonant base the 12" cone isnt even moving! i guess this means more power is required?! They should at least vibrate, though nothing really.

put your hand on the driver you should feel a vibration. do this to both. good woofers do not have to move much to give reasonable bass at low to mid levels.

Ok, cool, the grille is in the way though, still could feel the vibration/reverb and wind from them at high volume.

I've found out that I have a sleu of options in this reciever, like crossover adjustments, d-compression, distance unit, etc.. I have no clue! Im having fun with this reciever and I'll probably keep it! I did have to readjust bass levels to lower levels, though I have an option to "bass boost" and am using that instead, seems to not stress the speakers as much.. overall Im one happy man! In a few months I'll have my rear speakers, centre, and subwoofer, though I dont need the sub! I would like to ask if Im playing a movie and if there is an option for digital surround (dts, or dolby) will I be missing some sounds? I tried dts with my 2 fronts with gladiator (russel is fighting other dude with tigers) and noticed that some of the sounds were not apparent, so I switched back to analog. I guess its recommended to run digital only when you have a 5.1 config?!

I do notice some "throttling" in the horn, I wonder if its the speaker itself or the under-powered receiver?

Under powered reciever probably. Do some reading around about av units, learn what you can. It will be a worthwhile experience.

Thanks, I was inquiring as to this "throttling" and its most definetly the receiver. My speakers can run at 4ohms and the reciever can only do 8 ohms. I think I gotta go harmon or yamaha. These are at least double the cost and have less wattage per channel though the reps at future shop said its worth it. Man, these speakers are meant for dance floors!

I wake up every morning and these are my babies
