    ---------------------------
    Installation notes:
    ---------------------------
After downloading the ModCat_Setup.zip, unzip it, start the installation and follow the instructions. This version DOES NOT require any external dependencies like MSXML or .NET.

The usage is identical as with the previous Mobility Modder:

    1. Download the newest desktop drivers from AMD Graphics Drivers & Software ? Download the latest drivers for your graphics products

    2. Run the downloaded driver, let it extract into c:\ATI\SUPPORT - but cancel the installation once the driver is extracted.

    3. Run Mod Cat - ATI Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ - an example of Catalyst 11.1 would be:
C:\ATI\SUPPORT\11-1_XP32_dd_ccc_ocl\ - hit modify. Wait until driver is modified.

    4. Since side effect of modifying drivers is they are not signed anymore, it is necessary to manually install the driver through Device Manager after installing components of Catalyst Software Suit, so choose not to restart, go to the Control Panel select Device Manage/Display adapters/Your display adapter, then select Update driver and browse to the folder where modified .inf file is located. Ignore the message the driver is not signed. Reboot.

Enjoy modding and please let me know by posting here how this tool worked for you.

I believe AMD should have drivers for the 5870 mobility available anyways so modifying ones is not needed

Some manufacturers block the use of AMD drivers (Sony as an example).

Thank you NeoNero! Works great, so no more manual editing of inf and renaming is needed.
But unfortunately Powerplay is not showing anymore. (cant decide between loud fan/smooth framerate)
Is it possible to activate it again in the inf before installing?
Anyone has the same issue/knows how to fix it?

    btw:
    xpsp3
    mobile hd2600
    tested: no working powerplay: 10.5-11.6b

I look forward to 4200 and W7 support, as well as the next releases. Thanks for your work, I'll finally be able to update the drivers on this notebook. ;)

Is something like this planned also for the desktop legacy graphics cards? (X series) There is absolutely no official win 7 driver for the desktop models (mine is x1600 Pro) After installing 10.2 legacy driver no change. I'm still getting terrible sluggish effect especially in any internet browser while scrolling like everything is lagging. Same with microsoft WDDM driver. I really beg for any help...tried to find everywhere on forums but nobody has modder for desktop graphics only mobility models. I'm really desperate.

Re: Mod Cat ver. 0.4.0.1 - Installation Notes

    Greetings,

I have installed Win 7 premium home edition onto my wife's Sony VAIO VGN-AX580G laptop. System runs the new OS very well. One main issue - it sets in a docking station and is connected to a desktop monitor. With XP, no issues running dual monitors. With Win 7, the laptop LCD goes blank after the boot-up screen clears. Desktop screen works well. Tried all settings in control panel and nothing works. It does not recognize the second screen - laptop LCD. I performed the download of this Mod Cat modder software successfully and loaded the latest successful drivers for Vista from ATI as suggested (thanks for the tip and advice) Unfortunately, it did not fix my issue. The system still calls the second screen a generic VGA monitor and control panel does not recognize it. Additionally, when I un-dock the laptop, the laptop screen still will not come on, even after rebooting as a standalone laptop away from the dock. Any suggestions please? currently I am in a pinch because I was playing around with the projector settings in the screen display window of control panel and I accidentally hit the projector only setting. Now it will not turn on either screen when it boots, docked or un-docked. I booted in safe mode, and even went into configsys and in both places, the screen display setting are limited and do not offer the projector settings so I can un-doit. I am going to try and hook up another monitor directly to the VGA plug on the laptop simulating a projector connection and hopefully back out of it that way. Any help on the above blacked out laptop LCD screen would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Mod Cat ver. 0.4.0.1 - Installation Notes

NeoNero, I have a Windows 8 Laptop which I want to install the modded drivers. Do I have to do the modding on a separate Windows 7 PC and then move the driver files over to my Windows 8 laptop? Will I have to Mod in a Windows XP computer first? Thanks.

HI Andy, we are working on support for Windows 8 on Mobility Modder. Keep your eyes on this forum for the release (not saying its "soon").

This version sounds to be headed in the right direction, please keep up the good work as you make progress soon towards having a Windows 8 Modder. I have but one system running X300, the last time I upgraded to Win 8, I reverted back to Vista Pro for these reasons. I will keep watching for your talents to help us all move forward.
