I have read through several other threads about people having similar problems, and I thought I would congregate all of their information and add a little of my own to see if this problem can be fixed. I have a mobility firegl t2 graphics card in my laptop. I have been able to successfully install both omega's drivers and the catalyst 4.8 (using the mobility modder). However, both result in the same problem. For some reason, the opengl drivers do not get installed correctly. The opengl tab does not show up in the control panel, and any program/game that uses opengl crashes. Someone mentioned that there was a naming difference between the opengl files used by radeon and the firegl cards, so I went to my System32 directory. Guess what? I couldn't find atioglxx.dll anywhere! For some reason, the opengl driver doesn't seem to get installed. Does anyone know why?
Hmmm. No replies in 5 days. I think that is sufficient for a bump. I may as well as add that there seems to be a naming descrepency between the opengl files for radeon and firegl cards.
I own a T41p and find similar problems. I had no major opengl problems with dna drivers till version 2.8.4.8 based upon catalyst 4.9 beta : doom 3 runs fine but there was no tab option for opengl in the control panel The trouble begins with catalyst 8.07 betas and dna 3.0.4.9 and recent omegas too : doom 3 is no longer ok. I have been back to ibm drivers or previous dna but I had to use a restore point of win XP because something in the registry seemed broken with frequent reboot during 3d games (d3d ones). I will try the new dna to see what happens. My guess : maybe the ibm drivers makes some profound setting in the registry which cause some conflicts with others drivers. maybe firegl T2 bios is different (more than the chip id) than regular 9600 mobility, which can cause problems using same opengl drivers. This seems logical to me because firegl opengl drivers are expensive for ati (certification with 3d software vendors) and that is the justification of the more expensive price of firegl products.
I was finally able to install the 4.10 catalyst drivers. I had to manually modify the CX_18115.inf file. For some reason, if I use the mobility modder, the file named atioglxx.dll is not installed. Also, I needed to add the following registry key so that that file would be recognized as the correct opengl file: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\OpenGLDrivers\atifglws] "Version"=dword:00000002 "DriverVersion"=dword:00000001 "Flags"=dword:00000001 "Dll"="atioglxx.dll" After adding this registry key, everything works great.
Working? Could you provide a detailed step by step instruction of how you managed to get it to work? Much appreciated.
For some reason, the mobility firegl t2 uses different registry entries for determining where the opengl driver is. This is what I did: 1) uninstall old drivers and reboot 2) run driver cleaner and reboot 3) Download the latest catalysts (the drivers themselves, not the total package) 4) Run the installer. This should put the drivers in the folder C:Ati. The installation of the drivers themselves should fail, but this is expected. The files themselves will still be in the correct directory. 5) Make the specified registry entries and keys that I described in my last post in the registry 6) Open C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k-8-062-040929a-018115C\2KXP_INF\CX_18115.inf in notepad. Under [ATI.Mfg] put the following lines: "ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL T2"= ati2mtag_RV350, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50 "ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL T2 "= ati2mtag_RV350, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E54 This will allow you to install the drivers as if your card was a regular 9600. You could probably change "RV350" to "default" but this is just what I did. 7) Go to device manager. Right click on your display adapter (it should be something like vga...) and the click "update driver." 8) I can't remember what exactly to do from here, but you should make windows look for the driver in the inf file that you modified in step 6. It should recognize the ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL T2 driver. Let windows install the drivers and then reboot. 9) Run the catalyst control panel and control center setups, and reboot. 10) Everything should work fine now.
Does Doom 3 work with your tip? Because last time I tried to play D3 with the catalyst 4.9 or omega drivers based on these drivers, i couldn't launch the game
Doom 3 works fine for me. If you are using the catalyst control panel, then there shouldn't be an opengl tab, just one for d3d. Look in your windows/system32 directory for atioglxx.dll. If it isn't there, then there was a problem during installation. Run the DH Driver File Detail program and post the results here. (It's under Spike's tools on the main page).
hello i have also a t41p, what is the improvement with this driver? do you have any problems? i have 2 blue screens with omega driver... i hope this will not happen with this drivers.
