The 912 Plus features the same industrial design as other cases in the HAF range and has a main construction/sides which are steel. The edges of the front, top, back and bottom surfaces have a plastic facing with the drive bays and intake area using mesh covers. The 912 Plus measures 9.1×18.9×19.5 inches (230x480x496mm) and weighs 8.45kg.
On the front of the case we find four perforated 5.25" drive bays with the bottom one being suitable for conversion to a 3.5" device. Beneath these is a vent with filter that sits in front of a 700RPM, 20cm intake fan with red LEDs and a decibel rating of 19. This fan can be removed and replaced by two 120mm fans if the user wishes.
At the top of the front edge are our connectivity options. There are two USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, and 3.5mm audio out/in which sit beside the power /reset buttons.
The top surface of the 912 Plus starts with a tray where we can place items such as mobile phones or USB flash drives when not in use. Further back is a perforated section which is intended for use with 240mm water-cooling radiators but can also hold a 200mm fan. By default this location is not populated.
Looking at the back panel we find the standard motherboard I/O location sitting beside a 1200RPM, 12cm exhaust with 17dBA rating. Beneath these are pre-cut holes for water-cooling tubes and the PSU location is at the bottom. Above the PSU cut-out are seven standard expansion slots and an additional bracket to the right, ideal for fan controllers.
On the bottom of the case we find four non-slip rubber feet and the PSU intake area which, like the front fan, has a removable filter. The right side of the 912 Plus is quite plain however the left has a raised section with HAF branding and space for a 12cm or 14cm fan.
There was a time a few years ago that Hi-Fi/AMP like HTPC cases were everywhere. That has changed a bit in recent times due to some excellent m-ATX boards allowing builds in compact chassis however there is still something about the home theatre component style of design which can be appealing...
