Asus 4870 X2 TOP

On First Page2. Asus 4870 X2 TOP

Introduction

This year has seen the reguvenation of ATI with the success of the 4850, 4870 and the latest 4870X2. The latter is such a powerhouse of a graphics card that when it was released in August it won our highest award – The “Heavenly Hardware Gold Award”. It outperforms even Nvidia’s mighty 280 GTX when it comes to pushing frame rates and enthusiasts have been pleased with the variety of Anti Aliasing options available.

Today, as if this wasn’t enough, we are taking a look at the new Asus 4870 X2 which is set to push the performance boundaries even further, these preoverclocked cards are lovingly referred to by Asus as the “TOP” versions.

This card has enhanced clocks with the cores increased from 750 to 790mhz and the GDDR5 modules increased from 3600 to 3660mhz (900 to 915).

In addition, this card is equipped with an EMI shield, which reduces EMI Interference by 66% for more stable signals; and DIP Spring Chokes will lower temperatures by 5~10C in comparison to traditional Toroidal Coil Chokes. Furthermore, the LF PAK MOS guarantees more efficient power and less heat production; and on top of all this, Japan-made polymer capacitors will lower power loss for more stable operation.

Today we will run the card through its paces with the latest game engines as well as comparing it to a reference 4870X2 and Nvidia 280 GTX.
