Metro 2033 – DirectX 11

This futuristic action game combines elements of the first person shooter and survival horror genres putting the player in a post-apocalyptic Moscow. The game puts us in the role of a scavenger surviving below the city, fending off all manner of mutants and monsters. The scarcity of ammunition and good equipment gives the game a tactical element of when to fight and when to run, but at every turn survival isnt made easy by the progressive difficulty of the encounters. Utilising flashbacks eventually the protagonist comes to realise that maybe there is something more to his life than mere survival.

Based on the multi-platform 4A Engine the game boasts enhanced AI, dramatic lighting and environmental effects and full support of DirectX11/Tessellation.

Testing was performed at 1680×1050 with in-game anti-aliasing set to AAA, 16x anisotropic filtering and maximum settings.

Metro 2033 is a game which is part of NVIDIA’s "The Way Its Meant To Be Played" scheme and as the results show, this really is a game where playing on an NVIDIA card results in a better gaming experience than the comparable Radeon products. That said Metro 2033 does require a 480 SLI system to play at the settings we chose for this review, for those who opt for that setup the experience is excellent, as the results for Zotac’s cards illustrate.
