Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 Toxic Edition Review

When AMD launched their Radeon HD 6800 range in October a number of manufacturers took the base 6850 design and applied their own cooler or PCB to make those models stand out from the rest. Soon after there was an initial batch of overclocked models which basically took handpicked chips and overclocked them and while this does create a faster product it doesn’t necessarily make it any different to a consumer buying a reference clocked card and manually increasing the clocks.

Sapphire rarely does anything half-heartedly though and the focus of today’s review is their take on an enhanced 6850. This is more than just a new cooler and factory overclock though as they have completely changed the product to enhance its performance and overclocking potential. Read on to find out how it performs in real world gameplay with the latest games, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, F1 2010 (DX11 patch) and Medal of Honor. Of course our usual content is also covered including 5760×1080 testing (with videos and screenshots), Blu-Ray 3D playback, AMD HD3D gameplay, GPU computing and a section on just how far we could push the Toxic.
