Shogun 2 was recently released and is the second title this year which will take advantage of 5×1 portrait mode for AMD cards. Mixed in with this feature is an enhanced version of the Total War engine which uses DirectCompute for depth of field, contact hardening shadows (higher quality) and hardware tessellation.
In addition to this The Creative Assembly recently released a patch which fixed and enhanced the original DirectX 11 implementation within the game, enhancing performance and image quality.
Testing was performed at 1920×1080 with Ultra detail and 16x anisotropic filtering.
After some strong performance in Dragon Age 2 we saw the 6950 drop a little behind the 560 Ti for a few games but with Shogun 2 the card is back on top. The key result in this test is that the Sapphire card stays above 25fps at all times whereas the 560 Ti drops below this level which can cause a stuttery gaming experience.
