Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OverClock Edition Graphics Card Review

VS. Radeon 6870

Over the last few pages we have taken a look at how the 7850 compares to the 560 Ti from NVIDIA. What also needs to be considered though is the comparison to the last generation of AMD at a similar spec point, the 6870. So let’s take a look in two popular games.

Skyrim (DX9) was tested at 1920×1080 with 8xAA+FXAA, 16xAF and all other settings at their maximum.

Shogun 2 (DX11) was tested at 1920×1080 with no AA, 16xAF and all other settings at their maximum.

Looking first at Shogun 2 we see that the two cards are reasonably well matched on average and maximum framerates but the 7850 begins to show its strength on minimum framerates. Moving to Skyrim we have the Sapphire card really showing its strength though as the newer core design and extra memory allow it to perform significantly faster than the 6870.

Here are examples of how the games look at our tested settings.
